The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress that it intends to sell Israel some 6,900 tail kits which can turn "dumb" bombs into satellite-guided "smart bombs," including bombs capable of penetrating hardened targets, Bloomberg Business Week reported.
Some of the hardened targets one would immediately think about are those underground nuclear plants the Iranian government has been so chatty about this past decade or so.
According to BBW, the sale will includes 1,725 all-weather satellite-guided Joint Direct Attack Munition, or JDAM tail kits with BLU-109 bombs, which are 2,000-pound, hard-target penetrators.
Bombs delivered this way are among the most precise weapons in the U.S. and Israeli arsenal. They can be dropped by F-15 and F-16 fighter jets.

Wonder who they will be used against?
It might be cheaper just to drop them on Iran, etc. ourselves.
Just a suggestion - I understand the Pentagon is looking to start saving money, fiscal cliff and all.
Democrats could name this as a specific spending cut, and everyone would be happy, right?
I don’t get it. It’s Obamas Pentagon. He wants to talk to Iran(no carrot & stick here). Maybe the manufacturer is one of his cronies.
Nobody. They’ll be used for Target Practice, just to keep their forces well trained...
... just like the millions of rounds of Hollow Points are to keep various US agencies (NOAA, Homeland Security, SS (sic), NWS, etc) in tip-top training.
Don’t bother... Let them use their neutron bombs. Wipe them off the face of the earth.

in the late 60’s they were known as “paveway” bombs...(smart)
the dumb version was just a MK-84 2000lb’er
Not just Iran. Hizbullah is very dug in in South Lebanon. There are others
Israel has to get them first and Obama might block them
So Obama can give F-16s to Egypt with the stroke of a pen but for Israel it takes permission from the Dims?
I’m thinking Hizbullah’s bunkers.
Let’s sell them some F22s, nukes, aircraft carriers, chemical weapons, etc.
They are the only ones going to do anything anyway...
Not just F-16s, but he threw in a couple hundred M1A1 tanks, too. (beyond facepalm).
Israel should visit the Bekka Valley and see what Saddam sent north...
Israel is screwed, and Obama has plausible deniability.
Same here I think. Who else is dug in besides Iran? Could be Syrian missiles and poison gas bunkers. Could be missiles in Gaza. Muslims love to dig underground. Remember Libya's Qadaffi who dug miles upon miles of hi-tech tunnels for military uses. IIRC German companies and North Korea helped him out
Iran is counting on Hibullah's missiles in a war with Israel. I hope Israel gets this 1000+ bunker busters which will make Hizbulla very wary of attacking Israel
They’re asking Congress? I thought hussein snapped his fingers and these things just happened. Or didn’t.
“bunker buster”. . .what a bunch of ill-informed, dumb media-driven nonsense.
Strapping a JDAM kit to a Mk-84 makes it more accurate, not any more capable of penetrating.
The nose fuze has a delay you can dial in, but the munitions described are in NO WAY a “bunker buster” in the way the article implies.
To be a true “bunker buster” requires a hardened case to ensure penetration before detonation. and fuzing to ensure timely detonation at the right depth.
Sheesh.
Reporters, nothing but a bunch of Pulitzer-seeker, blow-dried-tele-prompter-reading-attention-hogs that are living examples of two ears being held apart by a vacuum.
Actually, the article is talking about Bunker Busters (BLU-109). It was Doogle who claimed that the BLU-109 is the same as the MK-84.
It's not. (oops)
BLU-109 most definitely is a hardened Bunker Buster.
Sounds like a BIG New Years Eve Party for someone...
