America was discovered in 986 by Bjarni Herjolfsson who didn't bother to land (he was on his way to Greenland and could tell that the land he saw was not Greenland).
I don't know if it has ever been proven that the Chinese ever reached America, but there seems to be evidence for some Polynesians reaching the western coast of South America.
