Conservative firebrand Glenn Beck has joined a growing chorus of Republican commentators in defending gay marriage, laying out a strong case for ending government opposition to letting same-sex couples wed.
"Let me take the pro-gay marriage people and the religious people I believe that there is a connecting dot there that nobody is looking at, and that's the Constitution," Beck said during a recent segment of his online talk show. "The question is not whether gay people should be married or not. The question is why is the government involved in our marriage?"
While Beck's defense of gay marriage may seem surprising, given his far-right political views and audience, it is actually not new. Earlier this year, Beck said that he has the "same opinion on gay marriage as President Barack Obama" and does not see same-sex unions as a "threat to America."
Still, Beck's public renewal of his support for gay marriage comes at a politically significant moment for the GOP, which is working to reshape its message to appeal to a changing electorate. A Gallup survey released last week found that 53 percent of Americans are in favor of legalizing gay marriage, a number that has been steadily growing for the past decade.
Moreover, by couching his support for gay marriage in a libertarian framework, Beck makes the case for the right to look past differences on social issues in order to broaden their coalition to include all limited government conservatives.
"What we need to do, I think, as people who believe in the Constitution, is to start looking for allies who believe in the Constitution and expand our own horizon," Beck said. "We would have the ultimate big tent."

Mighty nice of Glen. I wonder if he’ll be so understanding when I marry my four granddaughters right before I kick off so they can all collect a spousal social security check.
No idea if George ever uttered words to that effect, but I'm sure he would have approved.
A nice MORMON boy like GLENN BECK thinks HOMO sin is FINE??
Who knew!
Ya think??
Genesis 18:20-21
20. Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous
21. that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."
Genesis 19:4-7
4. Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.
5. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."
6. Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him
7. and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.
Isaiah 3:9 The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.
2 Peter 2:13b Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.
Ezekiel 16:49-50
49. "`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
50. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.
1. But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
2. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
3. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
4. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;
5. if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
6. if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
7. and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men
8. (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--
9. if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.
10. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;
11. yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.
12. But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.
13. They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.
But there IS hope!!!
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
9. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
If you could NOT change, you would be in most pitiful shape...
Provisions of law that tend to make thier conjugal relationship stable, secure, and durable would be viewed as rational.
“Religion” didn’t create the definition any more than it created the definition of “air”. The definition has been long established and universally recognized for over 5000 years. So I don’t care how “John’s Mosque” or “Joey gay goat” came along and tried to redefine it. They can no more change the meaning than they can change the meaning of gravity. It is what it is. They can try to create something new, but it’s not marriage.
Oh of course Beck does, mormons in general have no problem with homosexual unions why should he.
Really, this is what you think of conservatives speaking out against homosexual marriage at freerepublic?
That we are mental cases? closet homosexuals, obsessed?
DEFEND yourself from this thinly veiled claim of you being a QUEER!
If you DON't; then we'll ALL know you are one!!
See Ed?
He ain't right!
yes it is. It is the start of a slippery slope. Next is pedophiles married to children. Then marriage to animals, dolls, and robots. Then incest and polygamy.Then...
The question is why is the government involved in our marriage?"
It appears that you are correct!!!

“This is not Nazi Germany, where States’ Rights were swept aside to create a Monolithic super-State, governed under requirements for Uniformity of thought & culture”
It is where we are headed though. The “Affordable Care Act” most certainly does make the United States a totalitarian state as defined by conventional political science.
SEC. 3. DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE.
(a) IN GENERAL- Chapter 1 of title 1, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:
`Sec. 7. Definition of `marriage' and `spouse'
`In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, or of any ruling, regulation, or interpretation of the various administrative bureaus and agencies of the United States, the word `marriage' means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word `spouse' refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife.'.
(b) CLERICAL AMENDMENT- The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 1 of title 1, United States Code, is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 6 the following new item:
`7. Definition of `marriage' and `spouse'.'.
Those are all State laws. You do know how this whole Federal Republic thing works right?
I know how it works and how DOMA addressed it:
SEC. 2. POWERS RESERVED TO THE STATES.
(a) IN GENERAL- Chapter 115 of title 28, United States Code, is amended by adding after section 1738B the following:
`Sec. 1738C. Certain acts, records, and proceedings and the effect thereof
`No State, territory, or possession of the United States, or Indian tribe, shall be required to give effect to any public act, record, or judicial proceeding of any other State, territory, possession, or tribe respecting a relationship between persons of the same sex that is treated as a marriage under the laws of such other State, territory, possession, or tribe, or a right or claim arising from such relationship.'
The bottomline is that DOMA didn't open up a can of worms. It was a reaction to the few states that decided to change the definition of marriage for their own citizens and wanted every other state to recognize such marriage for the federal government to provide benefits on whatever definition the states decided it to be.
Knock it off!! FR is 100% opposed to the homosexual agenda. If you cannot live with that, post elsewhere.
None of which they have an Art 1 Sec 8 power to be doing in the first place. That is like trying to justify murder because you stole something...
Beck in not a God fearing Christian, he maybe a (lds) god fearing mormon - not likely as the lds god is pretty pathetic, nothing to fear.
Some wisdoms are just eternal.
Myabe those are his actual words, or perhaps just lines from a movie.
Nonetheless, those words are wisdom.
I appreciate your sharing them with me. I’m going to put them in my vault of words that have meaning.
I agree with most of your salient points and respect all of them, but I do not believe that traditional, conservative or orthodox Jews recognize Jesus of Nazareth as a prophet.
