I can vouch for your father being right about the Salvation Army and the Red Cross. After the Battle of Guam, where almost 8,000 Americans were killed or wounded my uncle came ashore with the US Navy. The Red Cross was already there, SELLING donuts to GIs. He never had any use for the Red Cross. He always said the Salvation Army was the best charity in the world. The Red Cross did great things after Katrina also.

My husband also speaks highly of the S.A. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton when his mother died. He was broke and asked the Red X to help him get home. They refused so he asked the S.A. They paid his way home and back. We always donate to them.
