And leverage.
Not to mention an abrupt campaign to depose Speaker John Boehner, as now reported last night by the Daily Caller. An idea discussed in this very space only days ago.
Grover Norquist understands this. Brent Bozell understands this. The Heritage Foundation understands this. Ditto Rush, Sean and Mark. And in truth -- millions of conservatives get it in their bones.
John Boehner does not understand this.

Let's see the House GOP start talking relentlessly, in Reagan-style, about the underpinnings of what Obama is demanding. Connect the dots just as Reagan connected the dots between a specific -- negotiations in Geneva, a summit in Reykjavik, the barring of the Soviet Ambassador's once privileged access to the State Department etc., etc., etc. -- and the bedrock reason they are being done. In the Cold War case, a quest for world domination; in the Fiscal Cliff case, the re-making of America into a socialist country.

Even just pointing out that the Communist Party USA stopped running candidates because they were content to work through the Democratic Party would be a start.

If Conservatives want to keep the House and win the Senate, we need to fire John Boehner as speaker of the House. We only need 16 House votes to do it.
As most conservatives know, Boehner and the House GOP Steering Committee decided to purge four conservative House members from their committee. Congressmen Justin Amash and Tim Huelskamp were removed from the House Budget Committee, and Congressmen David Schweikert and Walter Jones were cut from the Financial Services Committee.
Amash, Huelskamp, and Schweikert were targeted because they were too fiscally conservative—all three have voted against Boehner’s debt ceiling hikes. Amash and Huelskamp were the only two GOP votes against House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan’s budget.
Amash explained that vote at yesterday’s Bloggers’ Briefing at the Heritage Foundation, “It’s unacceptable to have unbalanced budgets until 2040.”
For anyone outside of DC, this statement seems obvious. Only in Washington is balancing the budget radical.
Many conservatives voted for the Ryan budget because they didn’t want to “let the perfect be the enemy of the good.” I understand that, but we shouldn’t criticize those who actually understand the depth of our debt problem and plan to propose real answers.
If Speaker Boehner wants to purge independent, bold conservatives—I think it’s time he gets fired as Speaker. Not only for the purge. He has failed to effectively win negotiations with President Obama and appointed moderate committee chairs. To the public, Boehner may appear radical but in reality he proposes milquetoast policies, like the tax-hikes he proposed this week.
While the caucus has already voted in support of John Boehner as speaker of the 113th Congress, the final floor vote doesn’t happen until early January.
Everyone thinks it’s a fairytale, but the Conservative Movement is capable of firing Boehner with just 16 votes.
The House rules demand that a Speaker receive a majority—218 votes—to be elected speaker. If no nominee for speaker receives 218, the House remains speakerless—as it did during parts of the Civil War.
If 16 House Republicans were to abstain from voting for Speaker, Boehner would only receive 217 votes.
Once we depose Boehner and cause a firestorm, the Republican caucus will get the memo: Pick someone else! These 16 Republicans only need to hold out until the caucus chooses a new leader.
For Speaker, I suggest members who are anti-establishment, but still have broad support. Congressmen Jim Jordan of Ohio would be my pick. He just finished leading the Republican Study Committee and proposed the best budget we’ve seen come out of Congress.
Republicans and conservatives deserve a more articulate, more conservative leader. In fact, we need one if we want to keep the House majority and take the Senate. Boehner has been Obama’s punching bag and has lost every public battle with the President. Now, he’s waging an internal war on conservatives.
Remember, we lost seats in the House under his leadership. He has failed as spokesman for the movement. Boehner has been in Congress for 22 years, and he looks like and embodies the typical DC politician. Can’t we find someone fresher to lead the party forward?

Problem is that cuts both ways. It would only take 16 centrist Republicans to block any conservative speaker. Don’t pick fights you can’t win.

So do nothing? Taking your advice there would be no Speaker. Maybe that in and of itself would be a good thing because the sides would cancel each other out. The real problem I see is that the Dems would vote for Boo-Hoo Boehner. That would tell you everything you need to know about him.
The tax increase are automatic and don't require a single vote. So House Rs have to and will pass a bill THIS YEAR extending the tax cuts for <$250K and send it to Reid.
Now O is threatening to veto even that middle class 98% tax cut bill so Republicans better get their butts in gear and understand Os plan to destroy the Republican party. Their stupidity is key to his pan, just like the election
The article also observes that there is little room in the current GOP for genuine conservatives. Agreed, as seen in the purges.
The time to start a conservative third party is NOW, so we can fill a few seats in the 2014 mid-terms and get past the Third Party Stigma.
We’re stuck with the GOP for now, but we should be planning for a future without them. Does anyone believe the GOP actually “represents” us any more?

Defeat the liberals, in the Republican Primaries.

Nice plan, but the way the RINOs run the party, they let democrats vote in the republican primaries, so it is not fair from the beginning. Then they set up the rules so only a few states winnow out all of the candidates except the chosen ones. Most of us never have been given a meaningful vote in the party.
I’ve never had a chance to even agree with them, since it is all over long before 90% get to express a preference.
On top of that, they have never heard of a challenge to voter fraud, or the introduction of safeguards. They are content to prosecute a lone individual every other election in one or two states for which the outcome would not have changed anyway.
Two party rule is nice, but I think for that to work, there has to actually be two parties.
The time to fight is at the polls. Once the elections are done and you’re a minority party, well, you’re a minority party. It’s fantasy land to think that you can go to war in congress with a slim majority in the house of representatives, while the opposing party has the executive position and the senate locked down. I know some of the older FReepers especially where raised on Mr. Smith goes to Washington fantasy where one man makes a difference and wins the day, but in the real world of politics, numbers are the only power that counts. The GOP has failed in that regard. That part is over. Democrats won
The most effective means of fighting right now is gearing up to fight for seats in the house and senate in 2014.

The House IS the peoples house AND the Republican are the Majority there -to hell with the Kenyan Marxist!
Each two years the chance to do anything gets smaller, your vestiges of power are waning not getting stronger. 2014 may be the last of a pubbie majority. So, we are waiting on a fantasy. No sense in using what power we have left. Just fold. I guess you are right. so, after the pubbies screw us I am supposed to get excited about 2014? It seems like a fool’s bet.
