Mr. Speaker:
We are losing the cliff war in terms of public opinion, but the tables can be turned. A few days ago you offered tax increases via eliminating or capping deductions. Your generous gesture won no goodwill from Democrats and the mainstream media. Moreover any tax increase now only damages the economy. Concerning deductions, why give stuff away now for no real tax reform or simplification?
Heres what the GOP should do now:
I. The House passes a bill extending for a year or at least six months all the cliff items current income tax rates; the Alternative Minimum Tax patch; yes, even those Social Security payroll tax cuts. The whole kit and caboodle. The same with sequestration.
The point to make is that the U.S. economy is headed for a recession. One ill omen is that business investment is faltering. Any tax boost will be particularly perverse. Destroying capital and hurting small businesses will only contract the economy even more. We shouldnt follow the bad examples of Western Europe and Japan. These countries are all raising taxes and the results are frightening. Japans economy is declining. Southern Europe is in a severe recession. France and Germany are about to go into recession. Britain just reported disappointing economic news and experts believe its economy will go into negative territory.
Another point to make it is ridiculous to try to reform the tax code two weeks before Christmas. Ditto for entitlements.
About the rich label, polls show that if the question is rephrased as to whether the economy would be helped if upper-income couples had their tax bills increased substantially, most Americans are opposed to the hikes. We should learn how to phrase these issues instead of employing the Democrats vocabulary.

I disagree. Let the Bush tax cuts expire and erase a DemoRat whining point. It won’t stop the Obama-zombies from eating the living and moaning, but a portion of the middle-class might wake up.
We shall see what the stock market does if Zer0 gets his way. Cross your fingers. Cross your 401K fingers.
Look up my thread on what my CPA's analysis of my families tax liabilities are if both don't get fixed.
If they don't I'll have to pay, but I want everyone else ( My Lib friends and relatives ) to enjoy to experience too.
The problem is, these people are of such a stripe that attempting to reason with them is futile.
Attacking their reasoning and their methods is like attacking their god.
The House needs to seriously reduce the WH budget.
I have previously asserted the “let the Dems and the voters bear the consequences of their votes” position, but the situation in Egypt makes me think that the oxymoronic Republican “leadership” should call people into DC to protest the Dem’s idiotic policies. Let’s take it to the streets!
That too will be Bush's fault for letting all his tax rates expire.

John Boehner AKA "The No Nutz Putz"
if the revenue bills must originate in the house, pass a budget defunding obamacare, hud, epa, doe and a few other alphabet beaurocraacies, send it to the senatel and go home. Make it very clear that is all they are going to get.
Vetoed? Change the date and pass it again in the house.
Government shuts down? Let’s just see how much government we can live without.
Seems to me the speaker is the power player in this oontest.
I agree with Forbes. The House should pass some legislation like he says and let Reid either deny a vote or let the dems vote against it or if it passes let Obama veto. Put the blame where it belongs. For all who say let Obama and the dems own it if we go over the cliff, they won’t. The media will make sure of that. But, the media won’t be able to totally spin dems denying a vote or Obama vetoing legislation that extends “benefits”. Offense folks, not this half-a$$ed defense we are seeing
It was a sainer time, we never thought the Dem’s would be as imbolden and be the Progressives they are now and have the nation on the march towards Hell quite frankly. I won’t name the business I was, but even the liberals knew, voting against the sunset would have been political suicide. My how far we have fallen since 2001....
