On Monday night, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin appeared on Fox News, where she told Sean Hannity that "Barack Obama is a socialist. He believes in socialism."
Palin's statement wasn't especially surprising; it's hardly the first time she's said that the president was a socialist, and she wasn't the first person to make the claim. For much of the past four years, critics from John McCain to Dick Morris to Rush Limbaugh have tried to tack the s-word on the President, claiming that Obamacare, the CARD Act, the Wall Street bailout and the fight over tax increases were all examples of creeping socialism.
Another thing that isn't particularly surprising: According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, the two most looked-up words of 2012 were "socialism" and "capitalism," followed closely by a few other politically-charged terms: "democracy," "marriage" and "bigotry." For that matter, a few other terms seem to have migrated from the Washington circus to the dictionary's version of America's Top 40. The general public's confusion about the definitions of socialism and democracy is understandable; for the past few years, an army of befuddled commentators have tried to figure out what the President's critics mean when they call him a socialist. In July, Milos Forman, a director who grew up in a Soviet-dominated Czechoslovakia, offered an explanation in The New York Times:
I'm not sure Americans today appreciate quite how predatory socialism was. It was not -- as Mr. Obama's detractors suggest -- merely a government so centralized and bloated that it hobbled private enterprise: it was a spoils system that killed off everything, all in the name of "social justice."

C. Some 51% of voters either didn’t care whether Obama is a socialist or were just fine with the idea of having one rule over them.

Getting caught-up in defining socialism or communism is to succumb to a misdirection of the argument.

A few months ago during a discussion with a "close family relative", his rant went on and on about millionaires and billionaires, more taxes, more government, the rich, the this, the that... so, I remarked that he was talking Marxist talk. After bristling at this "news", he was defensive, and hung up in a huff.
Clearly, there is a sizable segment of the populace that somehow implicitly knows marxism and communism are evil, yet spout with remarkable zeal the leftist talking points that comprise those leftist 'isms.

Not entirely. The truth is, he endorses elements of both socialism and fascism. It’s what is sometimes known as “Third Way” socialism, although I don’t think Obama would self-describe himself by that label.
Yeah, when he’s referred to as a socialist, invariably some leftist on a comment board will try to say the idea is ridiculous, “look up the definition”.
Well, sure, socialism is the government owning the means of production and distribution, and the left and 0bama are too slick to do that “in the open”. They know that a socialist agenda exposed is a socialist agenda defeated. That’s why they go to great pains to quash any reference to their policies as “socialist”.
They prefer to have the government CONTROL the production and distribution, and some “private” entity actually own it.
This, as you said, is really the textbook/dictionary definition of fascism.
So, when leftists protest the “socialist” label, I’ll tell them “you’re right - the definition of fascist is more accurate, but I didn’t want to run into Godwin’s law.”
I disagree that he’s a Fabian. Hillary is a Fabian - socialism gradually.
He’s a radical Marxist and wants socialism NOW.
