Police are investigating after a 2-year-old child was allegedly shot dead by another child.
Police said the shooting happened in Minneapolis’s Riverside neighborhood on the 1900 block of 7th Street South. They were called to the scene just before 1 p.m.
Authorities said the 2-year-old child was pronounced dead in the ambulance at the scene before he could be taken to the hospital.
According to Minneapolis Police Sgt. William Palmer, the toddler was shot by his 4 year old brother who was playing with a firearm.
Michelle Prestegard is a neighbor and witnessed the toddler receiving CPR.
“I saw the baby on the ground, on the grass next to the front steps and I saw paramedics performing CPR on the baby for quite a while,” said Prestegard. “They then stopped the CPR and then they picked him up. He had shorts and a T-shirt on. His body was just limp. His arms and his little legs fell back and they rushed him into the ambulance and the ambulance never left.”

You must live in an impenatrable home. Those weapons are useless to you as defensive weapons.
I raised 5 in a house with a loaded gun in almost every room including garage. They were taught early on to respect them. They never once touched them without permission. We spent hours in the pasture learning to respect and use them. It is entirely the parents’ responsiblity. Keeping them empty achieves nothing.
Even s an adult I do not keep my guns loaded in my house
I hope you never have to need it. Home invasion,crazed meth user,etc. Mine is always loaded and ready.

I do. But, I’m the only one here.
Let’s see...the Riverside neighborhood, children 1, 2, 4 and 5, parents are home and an unattended gun in a bedroom. Were the parents expecting a delivery and I don’t mean the Fedex guy?

I live in a different neighborhood than you do. If I lived in your part of the country I would be prepared as you are.
I agree that it is the parents responsibility. I grew up in a house with guns and they were not loaded and didn’t need to be until we were going to go shoot them.
I am curious how you explain to a one year old not to touch a gun....loaded or otherwise.
Being a good parent with loaded guns entails a certain level of common sense. The gun(s) should be at least in a location that your average 5-6 year old or younger cannot reach. Examples: gun cabinets, closet shelves, top of book shelves, concealed in night stand drawers etc... I in no way advocate having weapons lying on coffee tables, on top of items in a night stand drawer and the such.
Our toddlers had no access to our room via baby gates and we actually had a half door on one room.
That said you start training them early on similar to handling hot kitchen items by utilizing negative reinforcement until you recognize an a state of cognizance starting to appear. Couple that with realistic tv and game access where shooting and death are not in the realm of fantasy.
Turn 'em in, or have 'em taken!
