Californians are buying more guns than ever.
As of November, the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System had run 981,798 background checks related to guns in California, beating out totals for previous years before 2012 is even over. The numbers jumped about 8 percent from last year, part of a steady increase since 2008.
This year, however, the system broke records, with 154,873 calls on Nov. 23, up about 20 percent from Black Friday last year. With the high volume of calls, officials shut down call centers briefly to allow the system to catch up, Fischer said.
Among California gun buyers, the spike was even more pronounced.
Across all levels of government, officials have made moves to regulate gun ownership, he added. While the most restrictive regulations would likely be overturned by courts under the Second Amendment's right to bear arms, Eastman said a risk of control was enough to encourage prospective gun owners to buy while they can.
Outside of political strife, economic uncertainty has also inspired people to look for more protection, he said. Violent crimes have steadily declined in recent years, according to FBI statistics, but Eastman said concerns remain that those in desperate financial straits could be a threat to safety. With talk among politicians about cutting social benefits, financial hardships could become worse for many, creating an even more volatile situation, he said. Concerns are also high about preparedness in case of disasters, such as Hurricane Sandy.
"It's like a perfect storm," he said.

Again - they move into an area like locusts and destroy what they touch. But theres still good folks there that we should help, however we can.
Free Republic puts us all in touch. We should endeavor to take back what is currently lost, and not see all as a lost cause.
How? I dont know...lets start working it out, though.

Agreed. Many Californians have been there for generations. Many are former military, who were stationed there and chose to remain after they retired. Some have found work there, from other states whose economies have faltered. Why reject them? It makes no sense at all.
Oh brother. This very attitude is why nothing will change positively in CA. Its everyone else’s fault. Hmm, sounds like liberal logic. Have fun in the cesspool you all created. The fault is yours alone. I feel absolutely no kinship w/ gun owners in CA. You capitulated and did nothing. Now you want to associate with those of us who worked hard and won. In fact you’re a pack of losers.
Indeed. This country was blessed by God with its Founding Fathers.

It's clear from your convincing argument that you are a leader of men. I can well understand why you speak with such authority.

Urkel has done a great job demonizing Urkel.
I can't imagine why they wouldn't want to live in the wonderful City of Los Angeles. /s
“...Now you want to associate with those of us who worked hard and won. ...”
How did we win anything, when you or I can’t carry what we want, where we want, from one coast to the other, unmolested by so-called law enforcement?
Nothing is won yet. The fight isn’t even BEGUN, brother. Wait till Dickhead in DC starts with his UN crap and trying to have all Semis reclassified as NFA34 weapons.
Like I said, in PA, here we have a GOP controlled House, Senate, and Governor, yet through obvious fraud and other questionable voting (a Dem Judge throwing out Voter ID - PASSED by 70% of the state) we now have a Anti-gun freak Dem elected AG, Treasurer, and Auditor General.
Kinship with ALL gunnies, everywhere, is essential if we’re going to prevail.
If it comes to fighting holes, the guy squatting in one in CA is as much my brother, and in as much deep sh*t, as we are anywhere else in the country. And he’s an American, facing those that aren’t.
Same team, friend. Same enemy. They hate you and me as surely as anyone in CA who believes in his/her right to keep and bear arms.
It never fails to impress me how they were all there, at that specific moment in time - the Adamses, Jefferson, Madison, Hancock, Washington, Franklin - to create this.
They weren’t afraid to go to the mat, and they did. They signed their own arrest warrant basically when they signed the Declaration of Independence.
Giants, all of them. For what they believed in, what they loved...

They were brilliant, principled men. The more that I read their words and learn of their actions, the more that I respect and admire them. Where are those men who have succeeded them in our country today? Our Founding Fathers would be grieved to see where we now stand.

LOL!
That’s the beauty of leftist law enforcement. Given the choice of dying on a hilltop for the glory of obuma fascism or heading home to watch COPS and drink a beer, they will go home to watch TV. Every time.
The Gun Makers are required to provide the State with examples of the Firearms they want to sell along with design specs and anything else they are asked for.
The Guns are tested to see if they operate safely, drop tested, safety mechanism, etc.
I talked to a Rep at Hi Point, a Gun Manufacturer that sells low priced handguns. They sell two models in CA, a .380 and a 9 MM.
I asked her if they were going to get their higher Caliber Handguns approved for sale and she told me that after what the State of CA put them through already, it isn’t worth the bother.
As a side note, Hi Point gets a bad rap. They are not as polished as a Glock and are a bit heavy for their size, but my 9 MM has never stove piped or had any other issues. I was looking forward to getting their 40 & 45 Models, but no dice living in the Western Province of the old Soviet Union.
The “Approved Handgun List” is just another form of Gun Control. Make it difficult for the Gun Manufacturer’s to do business and the supply of Handguns dries up.
The enemy operates in full audacity mode 24/7/365, *knowing* that peaceful, civilized people prefer to be kind and gracious to others and simply wish to live productively and in peace.
The true heirs to the land of liberty are those who are naturally law-abiding and thus don't "need a law" to behave appropriately and responsibly. The locusts, however, only know the way of aggression and destruction through mass numbers in order to ravage and desolate and strip the harvest by force.
Remember what Amalek did.
ALL women think the same. ALL blacks think the same. ALL His-
panics think the same. ALL Californians think the same.
That is the liberal mantra. Why do you choose to buy into that?
We do what we can to try to stem the tide. If your state house
was dominated by Democrats you might understand. There
are millions more conservatives in California than there are in
your state. Unfortunately we are outnumbered.
Do you think that’s slowing down the illegals much in their acquisition of firearms?
“..Where are those men who have succeeded them in our country today?...”
Where?
Out among the folks who get up every day, drive their ten year-old cars with squeaky brakes, go to work at dead-end jobs, watch their paychecks shrink, their taxes grow, their homes lose value, their culture and heritage get ridiculed, their faith get slowly erased, their families and values assaulted by parasites that have taken over the country - the country that their ancestors built, fought for, and died for.
And they’re tired of it. They’re pissed off. They’re thoroughly disgusted and they’ve had enough of it.
They’re still here. They’ve been taught all their lives to live and work within the system, even when they system has been so thoroughly corrupted, almost beyond the point of repair, they still have faith in it.
But when those same people have finally had enough and reach a tipping point, you will see a push back across the country that makes the dirtbags currently manipulating the marionette strings of our sock puppets in power lose their water.
They’re still there. Don’t worry.
“...The locusts, however, only know the way of aggression and destruction through mass numbers in order to ravage and desolate and strip the harvest by force...”
And every once in a while, peaceful, civilized people will use insect spray to stop the locusts. History has shown that this eventually happens, when good, decent folks have had enough.
It's easy enough if you have a vacation home in NV or AZ, just have the spouse drop you at the MDV (aka DMV) with your passport, obtain a state ID card ($3 here if memory serves) and head to the gun show.
One of the best things about living in AZ is that I no longer have to go out and dig something up to go shooting. :o)
“...One of the best things about living in AZ is that I no longer have to go out and dig something up to go shooting. ...”
Point is, you had a place to get away to. What do you do when there IS no other place to go to?
That is what we must stop. They’re working from the coast inward. New York, New Jersey, the Northeast on the East Coast, and Cali on the West Coast.
Ultimately, they’ll do to every state what they’ve accomplished in these others if we let them.
This is THE war for our rights, and we need to remember that, and fight like it.
” Have fun in the cesspool you all created.”
By your logic you’re responsible for Obama and the cesspool in Washington. You capitulated and did nothing.
