It will be illegal to smoke marijuana any place you cannot have an open container of alcohol.

I'm interested to find out if bars and nightclubs will be legal for marijuana users.
Starbucks will no doubt be off limits since you can't buy alcohol there, so Amsterdam-style marijuana coffee shops are most likely not going to happen.
Plus, anti-tobacco smoking laws may come into effect.
Anyone know if you can still smoke tobacco in Seattle bars?
I don't drink, and I haven't been out to the clubs around here for years.
I predict one or two gatherings, probably staged for local news, and then back to life as we know it.
That is truly a gathering...for local news and everything else.
Perhaps legal marihuana will keep a few people away from really dangerous drugs like meth or even alcohol?
They should put active THC into beverages or inhalers though, smoking is just sooo nasty! :-(
What will happen to drug tests for employees or CDL license drug screening for truck drivers?
I would guess that it will be legal to smoke pot anywhere where smoking cigarettes is illegal.
I think there will only be more testing.
Try the gay bars.... wait.... in Washington state they are all homosexual bars now.
If it’s still illegal to sell it, where are you going to buy your legal dope..... at Safeway?
Heh. I thought the headline read “Where will you be to smoke pot...?”
I imagine many of the homosexuals will be celebrating submitting the paperwork for their marriage licenses with a toke. (Note - 3 day waiting period to get the license.)
west coast libertine freaks
If it was good enough for George dadgum Washington, then it’s good enough for me!

I watched an interesting show on, I believe, the History Channel last week about marijuana. It had a decidedly pro-maryjane bent but, nonetheless, it had some interesting info.
Portugal, for instance, has incredibly lax laws regarding drug use. After not prosecuting for drugs for a number of years they stated that marijuana use among adults increased slightly, use among kids dropped off (because you need ID to get into the establishments selling it) and the use of hard drugs declined.
Not proof of anything and somewhat anectdotal since, like I mentioned, the show had a pro-pot lean to it but it makes a bit of sense, rationale-wise.
Kids can get weed easier than beer in the U.S. because they have to show ID for beer. Hard drug use declined in Portugal because you could easily get weed so you didn’t need to go through dealers who were also offering crack, meth, etc.
Again, not proof of anything. I am interested to see how things turn out in WA and CO.
Exactly. Washington State legalized medical marijuana some years ago. Not long after that, the feds closed all the medical marijuana dispensers in Eastern Washington. A licensed physician can still write a prescription for it, but if there's nowhere you can buy it, what's the point really? This will be no different.
give the libertarians what they want and they will be calling to abolish age of consent laws
Wow, what a wide ignorant brush you paint there.
I have yet to hear one L/l wish anything but TRUE Freedom, for those of adult age (that goes for can fight a war, and drink a beer).
Maybe more attention should be used for all the abuses the Unconstitutional W.O.D. instead. This is exactly what the 9th and 10th were for.

I am not so sure. The walls have finally been breached.
Medical marijuana is legal throughout much of the nation and now states are legalizing the recreational use of pot. In every upcoming election there will be more and more states where recreational use becomes legal. It is inevitable. There is a goldmine of tax revenue for states that wish to permit, regulate and tax.
No government at any level ever declined to expand its regulatory and taxing authority — especially when demanded to do so by citizens. In this case, the citizens demand legal marijuana so the states will oblige by creating agencies, regulating and taxing.
It is one thing for the feds to close a handful of establishments down. It is quite another to deny state governments new revenue — that people are voting for in a round about sort of way.
Saw a Seattle police dept. spokesman last night on the news, trying to answer this question.
He said (with a sh*t eatin’ smirk) - if you are on a street corner with an open bottle and some one is on another street corner with a joint, they will bust the drinker because of city ordinances.
Welcome to Amsterdam West.
As it should be. Drunks are far more dangerous than stoners.
