New Jersey rocker Jon Bon Jovi has spoken publicly for the first time about his daughter's arrest and alleged heroin overdose at Hamilton College last week.
Stephanie Rose Bongiovi, 19, was found unresponsive at the Clinton, N.Y. school where she's a student. Investigators found heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in a dorm room, but drug charges were later dropped.

I can’t imagine losing a child. My sincere sympathies for your loss.
“I cant imagine losing a child.”
I couldn’t imagine it either.
Then it happened.
And people questioned my parenting, questioned my values, questioned my right to be at the funeral.
My kid wasn’t perfect.
But she knew where I stood because I had a clearly defined right and wrong, black and white system as a guide.
And she did apologize to me when she did something wrong.
She was on her way to look over an apartment theday she died.
She was 19.
I wonder if Hamilton College will throw her out. Or will the allure of her daddy’s huge pile of money keep her in?
Darksheare,
I am sorry for your loss.
My teens are now to the age where they will be going out on their own. I know we raised them right. I also know they will be making their own decisions. God be with them!
My daughter moved out when she was 18 so I had no control over her. We had some rough times but I am so proud of her now. She is working full time and going to college and hopes to become an RN.
My heart truly hurts for you.
Thanks.
You would think that twelve years would lessen the sting.
It doesn’t.
My kid wanted to be a physical therapist.
I’d jokingly told her “Imformation Extraction Specialist/Interrogation Technician” was the proper job designation.
Gee I wonder why homeschoolers never seem to have all these peer socialization problems?
A friend of mine lost a son to cancer years ago. She told me there is always a hole in her heart the size of her son and that nothing fills it. She has a great life, two other boys and a Christian faith that is incredible. But she always has that missing piece and says she will always be that way.
That accurately describes it.
While hiking, there’s always an empty spot to my right.
There’s always this silence in my car from where she sat.
At the table, there’s always an empty chair.
And always, at the store you go, “Hey, hey’d like tha-.... oh yeah.”
Darksheare,
I am so sorry for your loss. A friend of mine lost his 17 year-old son on a two-lane highway; he was the designated driver and was going to pick up his sister at a party. A car in the other lane swerved into his and they hit head-on. Both drivers were killed.
He just wrote a book about his experience, “A Father’s Tears.” I want to buy it and read it—but I know I’ll be sobbing throughout it. Anthony McColl was a polite, friendly young man; it was standing room only at his funeral.
Whenever I see his parents, I can feel their sadness, even if they’re smiling. As you said later in the thread, there is a hole in the family that can never be filled.
God bless you. I’ll pray for you and your family.
Good point. I also don’t think teenagers should have “girlfriends” or “boyfriends.” Not today. Today it means sex, birth control and abortion. In the ‘50s, it meant giving fraternity pins! Kids need to pal around in a group.
It’s been twelve years.
It’s true, it doesn’t go away.
same experience except my one and only 19 yr old (at the time) died
Bon Jovi is just lucky they all get another chance
Well that is the law if a drug overdose is reported the drugs found at the scene aren’t used to prosecute the people at the scene.
The reason for this law is to encourage people to report when someone is in trouble due to an overdose.
In this case the law may have saved this girl’s life.
Mine died and no, I didn’t know
So you are a clueless fool trying to make a pointless point that Bon Jovi is a clueless fool

Eat your words.
Mine died too at 19 - heroin
Son of 2 Air Force officers and grandson of another
you blaming Bon Jovi’s politics for his kid’s lifestyle choices is like someone blaming your politics for your daughter’s choices
sometimes they just make their own choice and they aren’t lucky enough to survive them, but we have to
