I have a little different perspective on this issue; I was at one time, the drug user and alcoholic. As a teenager, I came so close to dying that it still sends shudders.

But it was not the fault of my parents.

I had plenty of warnings and close calls, but I never thought anything bad would happen to me. When I ended up getting sent off to jail for an extended period of time, it ultimately saved my life.

That was twenty-five years ago, and still, I believe each day is a gift from God, and it is my duty to help those who struggle with the problem of addiction.

My message to those whose children did not survive their battle with drugs, I can tell you with absolute certainty, that they have not died in vain- their struggle and their sacrifice is an endless message to those who have survived that we can't let up on our battle against addiction for even one day.

Addiction is looked upon as a selfish indulgence, and I suppose it starts out that way; but it ends up in a loneliness that few ever know.

May God help all those who suffer it's clutches; and may He hold dear all those who have fought the demons with every ounce of their being.
