DETROIT (WJBK) -- The city of Detroit faces a major financial crisis and one member of city council thinks President Barack Obama should step in and help.
City Council member JoAnn Watson said Tuesday the citizens support of Obama in last month's election was enough reason for the president to bailout the struggling the city. (Click the video player to listen)
"Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that," said Watson. "Of course, not just that, but why not?"
Nearly 75 percent of Wayne County voters pulled the lever for Obama in November.
The White House has expressed no plans to bailout the cash-crunched city that some experts say could run out of money by the end of the year.
The federal government has bailed out cities in the past, however. In 1975, President Gerald Ford extended more than $2 billion in credit to New York City to help it avoid a financial collapse.

Except those nasty ol’ Wepubwicans still have the checkbook.
Obama has a template.
1) Stiff all the bond holders and creditors.
2) Have Bernacke print a few billion Obama bucks to give Detroit.
2) Transfer ownership of Detroit to the UAW.
In other words, “we shouldn’t be held accountable for our mis-behaviour! We are little children throwing a fit!”
Freeloaders gonna freeload...
Just like he wants every American industry to follow the pattern he laid out for GM.
Obama is busy planning his 4 million dollar vacation and hitting the links.
Sorry fellas- elections have consequences.
And every one of them can go f*ck themselves sideways for all I care.
Obama didn’t need Michigan. Sorry.
I would tell this POS Demonic councilcretin to “Go to Hell”, but it already lives in Detroit and Hell would likely be an improvement.
GFY Detroit!
When later historians want to know what destroyed our republic, that quote right there, carefully analyzed, will give them the answer.
All around this nation there exist great examples of well run cities and communities. It isn’t as though we’re lacking in well run communities. All the leaders in Detroit have to do is go and look at how it is done. Maybe ask for some coaching or guidance, which I suspect will be extended.
Sounds like they just want money. I guess it must be too hard to exhibit leadership and do the right thing.
[...there ought to be a quid pro quo...]
There is no such thing under a Marxist regime...learn to love it.
the detoilet city clowncil is a talking joke..
every one of them
ooohh.. someone learned a big word! unfortunately it means doing something ILLEGAL but she is too stupid to understand that
Yes, the total destruction of Contract Law, and without Contract Law we are essentially Poland in the 1960's or 70's. Would you do business w/ the a Soviet State back then? You didn't know if you'd get screwed in the deal!
But I digress....
Beck warned us this would happen, but he saw it at the State level, not a City, aka Kalipornia.
The dysfunctionality that is Detwaa is a culmination of the destruction of the family via the Great Society, Uncontrolled Unionism, and as a former Restaurateur said, it is not that Detwaa doesn't know black from white, they don't understand the color of "green" i.e. fostering an environment to do business.
One of the Detwaa newspapers had a list of the major employers and total numbers employed, it was frightening. The largest free market employer? Chrysler, everything else was paltry, with the various Civic Employee(s) and their Unions making up the majority and the total number added up to maybe 1/2 the city not working which means the are on assistance one may guess.
The funny thing is the same thing that destroyed GM aka Union contracts w/ retiree health care benefits that were unsustainable are they same thing that is the barrier for a deal to make the city survive. One of their Union Dupes the other day said they were promised it, and they are "entitled" to it...
So the Entitlement Class roles on. The tangent issue that may get envolved is Michigan Right to Work legislation that is as the Gov. has said is a go for now.
A double Smack down would be for this to pass and Snyder to say no to Detwaa. That would be delicious for those that believe in free-markets and limited government. The question then is how will Obama step in w/ out Congresses Approval, He can't....
It is not a question of black or white, they don't understand the color green...
