WASHINGTONConservatives panned the House Republican proposal released Monday to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff, yet again giving House Speaker and lead negotiator John Boehner little room to maneuver as he works toward a deal with the White House.
The proposal includes extending current tax rates for all income levels and raising revenue by closing loopholes in the tax code.

Agreed, this is all window dressing. Obama is taking us over the cliff regardless. If we agreed to his terms he would up the anti. Reid has already said any settlement must include the POTUS having authority to raise the debt limit as he pleases.
And the media will blame it all on the house republicans. So if you are going to get the blame anyway, I say lets shut the government down to essential services. Unions are always going on strike, let's have the congress go on strike. Do our timid career congressmen have the guts to throw themselves on the live grenade in Washington?
Those wascally conservatives again!!! LOL! America will NEVER be able to “Give Communism A Chance” as long as those pesky conservatives keep messing everything up!
Happens all the time.
Yahoo tells conservatives to make Boehner's life difficults...so FR ponies up and obeys.
People here claim to hate the MSM, yet constanly FR does the MSM's bidding.
Um, I think Gingrich was in the exact same position once upon a time. How much better did he do than Boner? Is that precise a measurement possible?
Yes, seriously. Most people do not realize that. The only thing the Constitution says is: “The House of Representatives shall chuse [sic] their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.” (Article 1, Section 2, Clause 5)
Welcome to Act 4 of Boehner/ Obama negotiations. In Act 4, Boehner and his supporters go and complain to left-wing media about the mean conservatives and tea-party hobbits, while they twist the arms off of all GOP House fence sitters who wobble between being conservative or supporting John Boehner. It is a bad idea to support a “leader” as bad as Boehner.
When Clinton said that he didn’t want to balance the budget, Gingrich said, we’ll we’re going to do it anyway. The House passed welfare reform again and again until it was signed. He appointed conservatives to committee chairmanships, he limited the terms of committed chairs and of his own position. He cut the House staff by a third (forcing the senate to do the same, which I’m sure Dole didn’t like). Gingrich actually used the power of the House as leverage. He didn’t just say oh, well, that was fun. I guess I’ll cave now.
All spending must originate in the House, yet we’ve had trillion dollar deficits in the last two years and the Republicans have been in charge. Because Boehner and company were afraid of being evicerated in the media if there was a government shutdown or a default or whatever other scare tactic they’d use, first with the continuing resolutions, then the debt deal, and now the fiscal cliff.
Gingrich relished the fight against the democrats. Boehner wants to get back to his glass of wine and his cigarette.
Obama is laughing at Boehner’s “realistic” plan - “magic beans and fairy dust”.
Message from Boehner: Eat your peas.
That SOB can eat his peas. I’ll eat my spinach thank you.
You people? You talk about other FReepers like you think you are above them. You're not.
As for the source, go to Free Republic's Home Page. Scroll down on the left pane until you see the "Media Links". Yahoo News is listed.
If you don't like this particular source being used on FR perhaps you could have a talk with the management and request they remove it from their home page. Registering your complaint with me will get you nowhere.
The media will demonize conservatives and mock the RINOs, all while they drive a wedge between the two and weaken the Party. It’s just like Illinois. Corrupt and rotten to the core.
Yep. Many of us are in that same boat. Though I would add this: I actually came to like Romney. A lot.
But his campaign fools did him in. Of course he should have fired them, so ultimately it all comes back to him.
I (and many others) are far far far far from being GOP haters.
But, for the most part, we are done.
Pubs had both the House and Senate then. We have only the House now. Plus, the Do Nothing argument and the budget showdown argument are seperate to my mind. The overall success of the class of 94 did not stop Clinton from beating Gingrich in the shutdown. That’s what I was talking about specifically.
As for the deficit thing, you do realize gubmint’s on autopilot. Everyone should’ve known it would be the same expanding stalemate so long as Congress is split. I really don’t see how it could be otherwise unless Pubs cave and open the dam or Obama compromises and keeps the Bush the Younger tax rates to help get reelected.
Spending bills originating in the House is dead letter, by the way. Especially after Obamacare.
Difficult? I want them to make his life a living hell until he runs screaming and crying down the halls of Congress all the way to his mommy!
The GOP establishment needs to go. They play for both sides.
“You people? You talk about other FReepers like you think you are above them. You’re not.”
Chill dude.. I never said that.. although you must be one of those that believes this Yahoo crap.
sorry to hurt your feelings... but I call like I see’em.
“The media will demonize conservatives and mock the RINOs”
The libs love this and the Conservatives go nuts, and RINOs are in denial.
I don’t think all the media is about politics (some are) but most just want money. I mean look at the latest “Fiscal Cliff” and ask yourself “really?, yes it’s bad but 100s of new regs are probably worse”
