Romney retreats into California seclusion

SAN DIEGO — The man who planned to be president wakes up each morning now without a plan.

Mitt Romney looks out the windows of his beach house here in La Jolla...He devours news from 2,600 miles away in Washington about the "fiscal cliff" negotiations, shaking his head and wondering what if.

Gone are the minute-by-minute schedules and the swarm of Secret Service agents. There's no aide to make his peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Romney hangs around the house, sometimes alone, pecking away at his iPad and emailing his CEO buddies, who've been swooping in and out of La Jolla to visit. He wrote to one who's having a liver transplant soon: "I'll change your bedpan, take you back and forth to treatment."

SNIP

The defeated Republican nominee has practically disappeared from public view since his loss, exhibiting the same detachment that made it so difficult for him to connect with the body politic through six years of running for president. He has made no public comments since his concession speech in the early hours of Nov. 7, and avoided the news media last week during a private lunch with President Barack Obama at the White House. Through an aide, Romney declined an interview request for this story.

After Romney told his wealthy donors that he blamed his loss on "gifts" Obama gave to minority groups, his functionaries were unrepentant and Republican luminaries effectively cast him out. Few of the policy ideas he promoted are even being discussed in Washington.

SNIP

By all accounts, the past month has been most difficult on Romney's wife, Ann, who friends said believed up until the end that ascending to the White House was their destiny. They said she has been crying in private and trying to get back to riding her horses.

Yup...the White Horse prophesy failed White Horse Prophecy [Mitt's Loss brings obvious conclusion that Mormon leaders falsely prophesied]

Perhaps disillusionment in Lds prophecy has set in.

If he had attacked Obama half as hard as he attacked Gingrich he might have won.

I’m not so sure Romney got such a bad deal. San Diego is vastly preferable place to the never ending Byzantine political infighting and backstabbing and treachery in DC.

Romney is an incredibly talented person, if he returns to the business world, I think he could he make even more money than ever before.

This country is full of takers and fools. They could have elected a talented businessman interested in creating jobs and helping business. Instead they went with a community organizer promising bigger government and more handouts. Truly sick if you ask me.

I’m sorry America, you are done for, destined to follow the same path that lead all of the great European powers to their current state of irrelevancy. And if I hear just one one more time that America is still a “center-right” nation, I am going to vomit.

Conversely we saw Carter, Mondale, Gore, and Kerry constantly the month after they were officially defeated. And of course, none of their wives were disappointed after a year of working hard to win the presidency with their husbands.

This is so much poppycock...

I’ll bet Romney has some plans in the back of his head. The guy has been a go-getter for many years.

Even a normal every-day citizen has a real culture shock when they lose a prospective job, and they’ve generally only put in a few hours or days worth of work to get it.

I’m betting that more than a few of Romney’s plans do get placed in motion. The dumb ass in the White Hut is going to find out that even he can’t refuse to take measures Romney would have had to.

You know, I’m not that big a fan of Romney, but this isn’t about trashing Romney. It’s about trashing candidates perceived to be on the right in general. Libtards never stop trying to make people on the Right look bad.

“Perhaps disillusionment in Lds prophecy has set in.”

I doubt it. The Constitution just hangs by a thicker thread right now then previously thought. When it gets to be a really, really, really, really thin thread, that is when the magic will happen.

Etch-a-sketch has a lot of uses.

They said she has been crying in private and trying to get back to riding her horses.

I liked how she came across, my gut feel she was not a Beeeotch like Moochelle or Hilda, and besides her wealth via Mitt, ia a better person than the spectre of that wealth would have some think. If my gut feel is right, she is a good person.

These are not tears of regret for what she didn't get.

She maybe crying for us as she get what a loss it is for the Nation. Or she is crying because she knows it was stolen....

Romney’s loss is proof once again that moderates are guaranteed of victory. A safe candidate is one that is lambasted by the media for being too conservative. Those candidates get people excited.

I agree. He needed to take off the mittens and put on boxing gloves. I feel sad because I truly believe the Romneys are good people- unlike the couple now squatting in the WH. I think he also would have been a decent president. Shame on Republicans for not voting. Perhaps some believed the “landslide’ predictions from Rove and Morris and felt their vote wasn’t needed.

Who knows, but I detest Obama and would much have preferred Mitt at the reins of this country for a time such as this.

Guess we’ll never know, but I, for one, can’t get past what the voters in this country have done to us. I will eventually, but right now - I’m still a tad bitter at what will befall this country under this corrupt administration.

I wasn’t a Romney fan, but he would have been night-and-day a better president than the one we are saddled with.

What is worse is the reasons he was defeated. The people have chosen interventionist government, handouts, and pessimism over putting the country back to work. The problem isn’t Obama, as many have rightly noted, its a country that thinks his is the right direction.

We are in trouble.

Romney wasn’t perfect by no means but his message was the right one and the direction he proposed was the right one.

So, the writer smirks because having been beaten in a race that he should have won handily, he has to take time to decompress and decide what to do next with his life. I would be doing the same, and so would most anyone.

Mitt Romney never had any loyalty to any state, it is fitting that once he had exploited local politics and moved onto national, that he would move to California.

I remember how the media brutalized HW Bush’s reputation by claiming that he would never actually live in Texas once he left the presidency.

There’s very little to be gained by trying to inform the Romney haters here or anywhere.

Romney has provided more jobs for people in this country than (probably) all freepers combined. Romney put his considerable money where his mouth was. And his efforts too. More than all the freepers here combined.

But the Romney haters still see the need to bash him and his wife. They’re not bashing the Obamas - even though they support third trimester abortion and have brought us to bankruptcy. We got what we voted for.

Maybe it’s not just the Mormon angle. Maybe it’s class envy. Whatever it is, it’s eating them up. Six months from now the angry freepers will still be sitting at their computers spewing their vitriol and Romney will have started another company or saved one from bankruptcy.

Ann and Mitt’s public devotion to abortion doesn’t bother you at all?

Conservatives don’t like Mitt Romney and the feeling is mutual.

Romney is the most left wing, most dishonest, most despicable man to ever win the GOP nomination.

Aside from being a pathological liar, for instance telling people that he marched with Martin Luther King, and longed to serve in Vietnam, that Ronald Reagan was “adamantly pro-choice” and other casual, and routine lies, Romney is something of a whack case, thinking that he is literally, becoming a God.

See my tag line.

I am so disillusioned with what has happened to us - in the face of our problems they elected this $*%*% again???? Beyond comprehension.

Of course it bothers me. However, I doubt that either would have voted 4 times to leave a child born from a botched abortion to die. We had 2 choices in this election - neither of which was my preference, but it was what it was. All I know is that I wanted the marxist out of the WH, but the ignorants in this country overlooked all social issues - even those who oppose abortion and voted for the criminal anyway.

Mitt just evolved - like Obama did - what’s sauce for the goose - abortion is legal, unfortunately, and we have far more serious problems in this nation - in other words - bigger fish to fry. I would have preferred a conservative candidate, but even then - the field we had to choose from was pathetic this last year. So, rather than just lie down and let obama win by default - I voted - for all the good it did.

Simple as that.

Perhaps disillusionment in Lds prophecy has set in.

Let's pray that if this is true that the Romneys don't follow the path of so many other disillusioned Mormons and walk away from all things spiritual. Just because the LDS "Church" presents a false Christ and a false gospel doesn't mean that the real Gospel of Jesus Christ isn't true. It seems that Mormons have their minds so poisoned about Christianity that even when they realize Mormonism is wrong, they can't bring themselves to consider the message of the Gospel.

Even though I've always considered the Romney Family as political enemies, I would love to call any of them a brother or sister in faith in the true Jesus Christ. (Even if they don't change their political views - I have other brothers and sisters in the faith who are confused on politics.)
