U.S. Condemns Israel's Decision to Approve Construction

The White House on Friday condemned Israel's decision to build 3,000 new homes in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria as "counterproductive" and said it would make resuming peace talks harder.

Abbas' move at the United Nations has" buried the Oslo Accords" according to various political figures and that is why talks are not on the agenda. The move to be "recognized" as a state, although symbolic, was made without agreed upon borders or a declaration of peace and is essentially a hostile step. Abbas ignored the US government's request that he refrain from doing so and the automatic pro-PA vote in the General Assembly, in addition to European support, made the result a foregone conclusion.

"We reiterate our longstanding opposition to settlements and east Jerusalem construction and announcements. We believe these actions are counterproductive and make it harder to resume direct negotiations or (to) achieve a two state solution," said National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor, according to AFP.

"Direct negotiations remain our goal and we encourage all parties to take steps to make that easier to achieve," Vietor added.

Earlier on Friday, the forum of nine senior ministers approved the construction of 3,000 housing units in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria.

In addition, the nine ministers decided to promote the building of thousands of housing units in Jerusalem and in the so-called ‘settlement blocs’, including the area known as E1 and which connects Jerusalem and Maale Adumim.

The decision came less than 24 hours after the United Nations voted to recognize the Palestinian Authority as a non-member observer state.

A senior diplomatic source said that "continued construction is done according to Israel's strategic interests." The source added that additional measures to respond to the PA’s unilateral move are currently being considered.

PA officials reacted with anger to the Israeli decision.

What? No multifront attack to wipe us out? That, at least, we'd understand. Simply asserting your own sovereignty, though?! How dare you!

Well that didn’t take long.

So can someone please ask pResident Whats-his-face what he thinks of the anti-Morsi protests in Cairo?

Israel does need to do one thing, even if it is not immediate. Create an announced red line, an ultimatum, that if the Gaza Paleos do something very specific, that Israel will deport the lot of them to Egypt.

The important thing is to create the red line, because from that point, it will have to be calculated into all outside interference. It will be a rule on which other things can be built. Some stability in the chaos.

So what can the UN or individual nations, *do* if Israel creates that red line? The first thing is that they might threaten Israel, like they currently do, that it better not invoke that red line “or something”.

And this gets interesting, because the UN and other such international busybodies are oriented to *inaction*, not *action*. For them to propose actions against Israel pretty much is an authorization of aggressive war against a nation for what it does within its own boundaries.

This will deeply freak out authoritarian states like China, who are adamantly opposed to *any* foreign involvement with the “internal affairs” of other nations. At all.

But it is also clear to Egypt that if the Paleos become too pestiferous, then they will be dumped in the Egyptians’ laps, something *they* adamantly oppose, because they don’t like Paleos.

Wait until they’re done killing another ambassador, and the Administration is done pretending it was because of a video. But by all means, keep telling us where to build houses. Negotiations are sure going to happen now. Of course./sarc

“The White House on Friday condemned Israel’s decision....blah, blah, blah.”

Instead of standing in a united front with Israel, the “White House has chosen to support and side with her enemies.

It is the United States that is now condemned.

Don’t confuse the garbage emanating from the White House, with the feelings of the American people.

Unfortunately, actions speak louder than feelings - and the American people did not curtail those actions when they could; the memory of the recent election is still fresh. A slim majority of the American people fully support the garbage. Even the question of the fraud is not relevant there; does it matter to a foreigner if he is hated by 49% of US voters or by 51% ?

From the foreigner's POV it resembles the scene from "Mars Attacks!" where Martians are running around, shooting people and shouting "Do not run away, we are your friends!"

Those 49% were not motivated by his Israel policy, but by the “free stuff” and the sense that Obama will shield them from any truly moral judgement, for their behavior.

The same thing he thought about the anti-mullah uprisings in Iran. Unless his cronies can make some money somehow, he does not care.

The real truth is that all this has happened before. The Hasmoneans made an alliance with Rome to help them defeat the post-Alexandrine Greeks. Afterwards, Rome became so closely “allied” that when Herod usurped the Judaean throne, they were only to happy to help him consolidate his power. Then after Herod, they simply took over. When Bar Kochba managed to miraculously have Rome on the run, he tried to form an alliance with the Parthans (now Persia), and the Pathans balked. Rome, which might have made peace with the rebels to preserve their important land bridge, was mortified at this attempt at alliance with a rival empire, and determinidely ground the Judaean rebels into the ground. When the Ottomans decided to dismantle the Jewish Yishuv carefully and expensively built up and established during the 19th Century, the Jewish halutzim formed an alliance with the British. Afterwards in 1939, the British barred all but a few Jewish immigrants, leaving the rest to be slaughtered by the Nazis. The Jewish rebels eventually obtained their independence from the British, and now we’ve found a new ally, Uncle Sugar. It’s time we stopped playing musical allies. The American people are our friends. I was born and raised in America. But our real allies are all around us: Copts, Maronites, Kurds, Greeks, Armenians, Bulgarians, Syrian Christians, Allawites, South Sudanese, India, Cypriot Christians. In brief, all the eastern minorities who are under threat from Islamofascism.

America remains hopelessly isolated from world affairs. Americans continue to believe such nonsense as that news is something that occurs on TV or on other continents; that while 9/11 happened, it won’t happen again; that the wot is over; that Islam is a religion of peace; that there are moderate Muslims; that the West must atone for its imperialism by allowing itself to be dominated, etc., etc., etc. Not all Americans believe this drivel, but those that do are the ones in power now, and even W caused his share of damage. No further alliance is possible under these conditions. An amity between peoples is not an alliance between nations. Britain and the US went to war against each other twice, despite their common language, at that time common origin, and culture. But for a lot of unforeseen factors, there might have been a third war, had the Confederacy persuaded Britain to recognize their government and ally itself with the CSA, which also was bonded with the Union by a common language, culture, and origin. We(Israel)’ve got to stop playing the alliance game. G-d is our only true ally. Powerful states will always look at us as a morsel to be eaten.

Breaking a peace accord sure does make peace talks harder. In fact, it makes war almost inevitable. So let’s build. Obama can suck eggs.

You know what, I’ve been sick and tired of this dog and pony show for decades.

From here on out, whatever the Arabs on the West Bank and Gaza do, the Israelis should do it right back.

They send a rocket in, Israel sends one right back.

They send 80 in, Israel sends 80 right back.

If the Arabs blow up a bus, Israel blows up a bus.

Western Europe seems to prefer the way the Arabs conduct themselves. If Israel acts the same way, it can probably expect some increased support from those quarters. /s
