My God, man! Did you not see the (sarc) tag? Wasn’t it obvious I was attacking libs who want to ban football?

Yes,I know *exactly* what you were doing and I responded. The simple fact is that regardless of how much the NFL (and, perhaps, the NHL) want to preserve their sports "as is" science...*medical* science...just might make that an unwise plan.Boston University School of Medicine, for example,is conducting a research study right now with the cooperation of former NFL players (and their heirs) regarding the effect that head injuries had on these players. The preliminary report I read suggested that there's evidence of subtle...and not so subtle...effects,ADVERSE effects, having been found. My understanding is that this study is ongoing. It's hard to imagine that similar studies aren't taking place at other top medical schools both here and abroad.

Science is science. If researchers found that 20 Twinkies in a lifetime caused cancer in 90% of research subjects then, regardless of how important a part of American culture they might have been,a reasonable person would abstain from eating them. And if 50...or 20...or 5 concussions are found to have severe consequences in 90% of research subjects then one could conclude that preventing these concussions would be a very wise idea.Even if that means substantial rule changes...or worse.

God help us from people trying to save us from every adverse effect. Almost 100% of the power plant mechanics I know retire with severe back problems. many have had surgeries and are on a first-name basis with their chiropractor. People like you would say that it is unsafe to make electricity.

Or would you? No one cares if a blue collar worker injures himself on the job because that’s just part of the job. But, something high profile like the NFL and its players who make millions of dollars is worth pursuing as a crusade.

Everyone knows that continued helmet-to-helmet contact causes brain injuries. You don’t need to create a public relations crusade to shake down the NFL and NHL for lots of money for “studies” to know what is common sense.

Always go for the defendant with the deep pockets! That’s the new motto for this country.

NO you did NOT know what I was doing, or else you wouldn’t have questioned my med credentials, which, clearly, because I was being sarcastic, would be irrelevant.

NOW you’re trying to cover up with a LONG-WINDED diatribe about nothing. But that’s cool.

Also, science is NEVER science when politics get involved (global warming anyone?). NO amount of liberal “science” designed to destroy football will ever be worth shit.
