San Bernadino...population 209,000...45 murders in about 11 months.

New York....population about 8 million...193 murders from 1/1/12 to 6/30/12

I'm no math whiz but it seems that NYC came out first in this contest....by a wide margin.

San Bernardino: 235 murders per million per year (prorated):
45 * (1/0.209) * (12/11)

NYC: 48.25 murders per million per year (prorated):
193 * (1/8) * (12/6)

NYC appears to be much safer.

Actually, in San Bernardino, there is one murder per 4600 residents. In NYC there is one murder for every 20000 people. That tells me that San Berdoo is far more dangerous. I lived in downtown San Bernardino for 6 months in the mid 80s, in the Golden Eagle and Sunshine Hotels. It was a dangerous place then. I haven’t been there since, but I imagine it’s far worse.
