When Monti Price arrived for work at the Hope Center in Woodstock Wednesday morning, she was struck by what she did not see.
I noticed a big empty space in our parking lot where our trailer used to be, she said.
Inside that trailer, five brand new cribs intended for needy mothers like Angela, who earned them by attending parenting classes. Angela arrived at the ministry for pregnant women and new mothers on Thursday afternoon, hoping to pick up the crib for her three-month old son, David.
Just to find out this, she said, shaking her head in sad surprise, Im really disappointed.
Without the crib, she said, her young son will do what he has done since birth.
David will sleep with me for now, in the same bed. And its not even safe for the baby, she added, saying there is just no way she can afford a crib on her own.
Hope Center executives say, since word of the theft started spreading, the community has rushed in with offers of support. There have been enough donations to cover the purchase of new cribs, but not enough yet to buy a new trailer. The trailer, which was also donated, had been used to deliver the cribs and baby seats, also given to those who earn them by taking parenting classes and who might not otherwise be able to afford them.
Woodstock Police continue their investigation into the theft. And Angela had a message for the thief:
You ought to be ashamed of yourself, she admonished, and ask for forgiveness from God.
From my viewpoint there isn't any difference between "Angela" and then thieves except they weren't too lazy to steal on their own, and "Angela" was too lazy to even do that - doubtless relying on the government to supply her EBT card loaded with stolen dollars form the taxpayers and charity to supply her lifestyle. I wonder if she has a flat screen TV. I also wonder where be the baby daddy.
Did you ever wonder whether Angela is only 15, still a legally innocent child herself, and has been spawned by irresponsible parents and also abandoned by the baby daddy and his family? Have a heart. At least she did complete the parenting classes and we aren’t as likely to see her yelling at her crying baby and hitting it in the grocery aisles.
That she attended a ministry puts her ahead of many that just wallow in thier error.
Perhaps a more forgiving attitude to fellow sinners is in order.

So what? Does that mean she's going to give up her (assumed) EBT card?

You can forgive all you want. But irresponsible a$$holes like her are what is ruining this country. Want to guess how she voted? Going out on a lib here, but I'm going to say 0bama.
I doubt that 15 year old Angela voted at all.
I don't approve of her actions, but what exactly do you want? You want to stone her to death? Or just rage about her?

I’m glad I live in a different Woodstock (not that something similar might mot happen here).
No. And I still don't. ANd even if she were, SO WHAT? There are lots of people whose parents aren't the greatest that don't continue the cycle. Unless she was the victim of rape, she spread 'em willingly and knowing what the result was likely to be. Birth control is very widely available, and if you can't afford kids without burdening other people with the cost of your pleasure you shouldn't have 'em.
I expected some sanctimonious posts like yours from those who lack the ability to think critically.

in the 70’s, 50% of illegitimate babies were put up for adoption. Adopted children do much better in life than even children born to two parent homes.
Now less than 1% of illegitimate children are put up for adoption.
It's an imperfect world. People are always going to be doing things you don't like.
What is your solution to that?

I have been volunteering at Shared Pregnancy here in Lansing for years, and apart from food baskets at Christmas and Easter the clients get absolutely no freebies. They earn points by attending parenting classes, which cover everything from health and nutrition to early learning, or they earn points by volunteering at the center. The points are accumulated and then cashed in when the client wants/needs something. A bag of clothing is usually 1-2 points--something like a crib is 10. Figure that it takes an hour to earn a point--how much is 10 hours of work at minimum wage?
Enough to buy a crib.
Oh, stuff it. If there was ever someone who thinks critically, it’s yours truly. You are kicking the victim. The article says private persons donated to this cause. The villain remains 40 years of failed Democrat progressive politics.
I understand where you’re coming from. There are so many of these “ministries” where they believe they’re helping these people. Yet, I’m not sure they’re really correcting attitudes (which they should be about) or just giving handouts (which is what they’re doing). It’s simply another method for redistributing the wealth. People feel sorry and give. Others take. Just because Angela attended a parenting class doesn’t mean that she has changed her attitude or her desire to “better” her life situation.
another free yard sale on craigs list?
I totally agree because today’s out of wedlock children as well as children from divorced homes suffer Parental Alienation, which is the worst child abuse of all! All due to a complicit “family” court system.
Conservatives often get accused of not having a heart. But here is a private center where people are actually trying to save the life of a child and help the moms -- as if there have NEVER been single moms in the history of the world -- and we have a screed about taxes at the top of the thread.
I agree; the entire Great-Society-easy-sex-and-welfare mentality has put this country in the toilet, and we have LBJ to thank, among many other Democrats. But the original post screaming about a single mother who at least made an effort? Not a solution.
I sense a hard core leftist approach - attempting to marginalize your opponent by calling them "angry" I also sense dishonesty in your calling "Angela" 15 years old. NOWHERE IN THE ARTICLE IS HER AGE STATED. I don't know her age and, more to the point, neither do you. You're entitled to your own opinions, but you're NOT entitled to your own facts
What do YOU want? DO you want more welfare recipients? Additional lifestyle support for the irresponsible? Additional rewards for stupid behavior? Is this what you want?
As to what I want is for people to have bear consequences for their actions. ONLY THEN will there be fewer irresponsible choices among the indolent.
What's yours?
