In the aftermath of the 2012 election, in which Republicans garnered a shockingly low percentage of the Hispanic vote, Republicans have begun to rethink their position on comprehensive immigration reform. In the short term, many Republicans are looking to take measures that seem more immigrant-friendly. But even as Republicans look to reshift their framing, Democrats continue to demagogue on immigration.
One of the most positive and uncontroversial Republican efforts is the STEM Act STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math which is designed to elevate visas available for foreign-born graduates with advanced technical degrees from US universities. The idea would be to make America a magnet for educated immigrants.
For no apparent reason, the Obama administration has opposed the act. Why? They want Republicans to continue to appear immigrant-unfriendly so long as theres no comprehensive immigration reform.

He certainly doesn’t want those who are smart and who value real education!
Take a deeper look at Calif. their Christmas dislplays in neighborhoods in the suburbs is no existant, because they people have a different religous background. We import folks with different values, for their education, then they change our politics to suit their history...Indian socialism for example.
Obama is hell bent of turning this country into a third world nation.
Oslama has the well educated illiterate market cornered. Illegal immigrant illiterates are just the cherry on top.
I am laughing at all the Bay Area tech execs who rely SO heavily on the H1B and who all supported Obama.
It’s probably union pressure. Historically, this is what has always prevented immigration laws from granting better status to educated applicants. The teachers unions, for example, fought heavily to keep teachers and other educated people out on an earlier round of immigration reform (for fear of job competition).
Obama needs an imported Democrat voting ignorant, uneducated constituency. Why would he want anybody with an education that can actually work for a living coming here?
I could care less about their Hindu or Buddhist or Confucian backgrounds. (Islam, of course, is a whole different story.)
And if educated US techies can’t compete and won’t retool, they should be doing something else. The country is far better off with more dynamic technologists and entrepreneurs.
The importing of socialist political values is troubling. I think we could overcome it over time had we no affirmative-action Balkanization of racial and ethnic groups and no massive welfare programs.
I’m not quite sure of the answer to that, and I think it is a basis for real consideration.
Obamugabe hates truly educated people of any race.
His perverted team only desires ignoramuses. He attracts those in droves.
All of the foreign nationals that we sponsor for work visas get paid on the same scale as every other engineer; based on education and work experience.
I’ve not personally seen the “they work for lower wages” meme in action.
