Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, says he burst into laughter Thursday when Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner outlined the administration proposal for averting the fiscal cliff. He wasnt trying to embarrass Geithner, McConnell says, only responding candidly to his one-sided plan, explicit on tax increases, vague on spending cuts.
Geithners visit to his office left McConnell discouraged about reaching a balanced deal on tax hikes and spending reductions designed to prevent a shock to the economy in January. Nothing good is happening in the negotiations, McConnell says, because of Obamas insistence on tax rate hikes for the wealthy but unwillingness to embrace serious spending cuts
Geithner suggested $1.6 trillion in tax increases, McConnell says, but showed minimal or no interest in spending cuts. When congressional leaders went to the White House three days after the election, Obama talked of possible curbs on the explosive growth of food stamps and Social Security disability payments. But since Geithner didnt mention them, those reductions appear to be off the table now, McConnell says.

Bet they cave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like a Neanderthal.
This is typical the Dems demand tax hikes and promise cuts in spending in the future, that never happen!
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
What a “joke” the GOP is going to be when they sell the American People down the river. This Kabuki dance is getting old. Every Christmas we have to put up with this crap.
Go over the cliff already!
Laughed in his face, huh? Right.
The man is ITCHING to give in. It’s killing him, he wants sooooo badly to sit at The Cool Kid Table.
He’ll let those Letterman Jacket guys titty twister and noogie him a trilllllion times, just so long as they permit him for a second to consider them, “his friends”.
Life does NOT change from high-school —Republicans are MACFLY, stumbling around ClockTower Square mumbling, shoes untied with jacket sleeves dragging.
I AM NOT FOOLED.
The key to this mess is making every detail public. This crowd avoids daylight and more we can shine on their corrupt, shameful plans, the better. Since does the government of a democracy work in secret from its own people? For you political operatives out there, make everything public!
They WILL cave since the MSM will blame Republicans.
Democrats aren’t worried about looking one sided. They expect the news media to do their heavy lifting, as usual.
Needs more cowbell.
And this article mentioned something Id like to see discussed. Disability. Social Security for senior i think should be honored. Disability once made sense too. It was when someone lost two legs in a railyard, was blinded in an industrial accident, etc.
Now disability is every obese lazy person who has a “backache”. They are everywhere if you start to notice. Disability should be separated from old folks SS, and it should be scrutinized hard. The default should be to nearly always assign them a job doing some menial, non strenuous task that they will not enjoy. If they refuse, no disability check.
What have the democrats done in the last four years to solve the spending problem. It cannot be fixed with higher taxes. They own it!
Didn’t Reagan do amnesty for illegals in exchange for a Democrat promise for more Border fencing? A promise never kept, of course.

Ronald Reagan learned this lesson from Tip O’Neill
George H.W. Bush learned this lesson from George Mitchell.
Newt Gingrich learned this lesson from Bill Clinton.
George W. Bush learned this lesson from Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.
Will Boehner and McConnell have to learn it from Obama and Reid?
He should have laughed and walked out.
I'm betting they fold like a cheap suit. McConnell has never let me down on that bet.
BamaClaus has been able to roll the Pubbies on every fiscal standoff. Why would he not try it again?
At some point the Pubbies will have to stand up and say enough is enough. Are we at that point yet? Probably not with Bohner being Leader of the Pack
I am willing to bet, nobama knows HE WON and has so much as told the Pubbies that and now dares them to stand in his way.
From the day they announced the sequester suicidal military cuts I knew and the dems knew the Pubbies would never let the Fiscal Cliff thing happen, no matter what it took. Craziest thing I ever saw!
If nothing big happens to head this off at the pass, we are done my friend. Hello Texas!
