LANSING Speaker of the House Jase Bolger, R-Marshall, issued the following statement regarding this mornings Health Policy Committee vote on a state-run health exchange:
It was my hope the committee would find that a state-run exchange afforded us more control over the unacceptable over-reach by the federal government regarding the health care of Michigan citizens. After due diligence, however, it is clear that there were too many unanswered questions for the committee to feel comfortable with a state-run exchange and we will not have one in Michigan. I applaud Committee Chair Gail Haines for her leadership and the large amount of testimony and discussion she welcomed on this issue. I know her focus never wavered from what is best for Michigans citizens.
The committee apparently was not able to get the answers to key questions or receive assurances about major concerns regarding costs for Michigan taxpayers, the ability to adopt a model the federal government wouldnt ultimately control or the ability to protect religious freedom for Michigan citizens. Because the committee could not be assured that a state exchange was the best way to protect Michigans citizens, it is understandable why they did not approve the bill.
There is lots of cheap real estate in the greater Detroit area, I hear.
For a flat tax and lower capital gains, the republicans will flinch. Count on it. They're going to flinch anyway.
:) humor, informative thread and GRRRRREAT news BUMP! Thanks to all posters.
so what happens if ObamaCare goes into law, but there’s no infrastructure to implement it?
Which is proof that Fallin is not up to the challenge. “Let the feds impose their will on us. We’re not paying for it.”
No, the Rats have been outed. I don’t think a D will ever win Oklahoma again.
Is there a compiled list of all the states so far that have denied an exchange?
Sixteen states most of them governed by Republicans have said they will not set up their own systems, forcing the federal government to come up with one instead.

It looks like 16 was the number on Monday this week. I think several have been added to that, but not sure. AZ, Michigan, ? others?
She is right it really makes no difference, Washington will issue unconstitutional barking orders controlling the usurpation either way. Their just asking our States to get blood on their hands and a financial burden upon their backs for what amount to nothing.
No exchanges no Obamacare. I will never vote for ANY republican that votes for Obamacare or it’s exchanges. That includes the Govern of New Mexico is is now dead to me.
I don't think so either. Oklahoma is still a conservative state, even if the majority of the registered voters are registered Democrat.
Good news...hopefully this monstrosity will fall under it’s own weight.
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who do I thank?
In no way am I disagreeing with the states doing this, but ...
I fully expect the feds to start pulling the plugs on the “distributions” that the states have already come to rely on from the fed govt until the states come to heel on this issue.
P.S.
The feds will not let this go unpunished - they could refuse to pay the medicare claims of those living in the ‘selfish’ states, etc. And just keep turning up the heat until the states buckle.
I hope I’m wrong. If enough states refuse to set up
exchanges, maybe that will prevent much or any retailiation.
You would think so, wouldn’t you? We had a tea party candidate, but he lost in the primary. The explanation was that it was Fallin’s “turn”. Sound familiar? I don’t know how these choices are forced on us by the Republican establishment, but it happens all the time. We only think we have a choice in the primary.
I suspect you are correct. Obama will not be denied short of force. He will push and push until the states break or those that are able start prcticing state nullification. A state like Texas could perhaps stand against the Feds, but most can't. How far will Obama go = look at Hugo Chavez for a model.
“Yet Michigan voted for Hussein..”
MI came in divided like the nation as a whole. The GOP is managed by moron RINO’s but the lower rank and file think like us, and they said No. I wished there was a law that stated if you voted for Odumbo, you automatically get enrolled in the hell you gave us for the next 4 years.
“I don’t think so either. Oklahoma is still a conservative state, even if the majority of the registered voters are registered Democrat.”
The last election still voted solid Republican in OK, as stated by Drudge. That’s a head-scratcher if the Dems are the majority there..
I haven’t looked at statistics, so I could be wrong. But I suspect registered Democrats still outnumber registered Republicans in the state of Oklahoma. It would be because a lot of them have been voters for 30 to 40 years, and they don’t change their registration. Oklahoma is historically conservative Democrat, like a lot of Southern and Western states.
