Man convicted of "thrill kill" to be released over a decade early

Posted: 11/28/2012 10:00:03 AM

Community members are angry after the Rhode Island Parole Board has agreed to release a man convicted of a “thrill” kill from prison on parole over a decade before his sentence is over.

In 1999 Alfred Brissette and Marc Girard of Woonsocket decided to execute their plan to kill a random woman and bury the body. According to court Documents, the men met Jeanette Descoteaux and offered her cocaine if she came with them. Descoteaux agreed and followed the men in the woods of Burrillville. In the woods the men brutally beat Descoteaux to death. Now, Brissette who pleaded no contest, will be released from prison in December, at least 6-years before serving his full sentence.

“This could have been anyone’s daughter,” Carolyn Medeiros of the Alliance for Safe Communities told the WPRO Morning News with Tara Granahan and Andrew Gobeil. “It was a horrific heinous crime, it was described as a thrill kill, they did it just for the experience and the thrill of the kill.”

Brissette was sentenced to 60 years with 35 to serve. In jail he earned over four years off his sentence in “good time” credit. The Parole Board has now agreed to release Brissette from prison on supervised released although he was not scheduled to be released from prison until 2028, even with the good time credit. Brissette’s upcoming release was first reported by WPRI-TV.

The Parole Board said the decision was made as a result of Brissette’s clean record while in prison for the past 14-years and because Brissette participated in program and followed his documented plan for change. The board also claimed that the Attorney General’s office and family members did not issue any letters of objection to Brissette’s release.

Medeiros said Descoteaux’s mother has passed away and that as a result there were no family members around to object during the parole hearing. She said that it seems the parole board was “just smitten” with Brisette. “I hope they realize they are going to bear the responsibility of their negligent decision.”

The crime is described as “brutal, barbaric, and utterly senseless thrill,” in court documents. After the men had lured Descoteaux into the woods Brissette demanded sex in exchange for drugs. After that Brissette whacked Descoteaux in the head with a lug wrench, the woman asked why he did that, and Brissette responded by striking her again.

He then instructed Girard to use the shovel they had brought and start digging a hole. The victim realized what was going on and began to run for her life naked through the woods. When the men caught her they beat her to death with the lug wrench and the shovel.

The family should return the favor of the thrill. He should have been executed in prison.

Star Chamber. The system has failed. Time for the citizens to step in.

“Why would they release him??”

Reason 1. Liberals on parole board in a Liberal state.
2. Demonstrate commitment to Libtard “sympathy with poor ickle crooks.”
3. Lowers prison costs.

Stupid Rhode Trash got in this situation when they did not execute the “thrill seekers”.

Liberal have a bloolust for the innocent. They will murder the innocent in any way they can get away with. Deathcare will be a big killing playground for them.

I should have paid more attention in math class. He beat her to death only 13 years ago but somehow it adds up to “you can go now”.

In the video they say he will only serve about 14 years after he got a 40 year sentence for a brutal murder. They also comment that the parole board said he caused no trouble in prison plus no one wrote to the parole board about not letting him out. Turns out the victims mother died 4 years ago so I guess there was nobody to object. Why the states AG didn’t object is beyond me.

Reminded me of Kwanza.

The slain woman had no family or even friends other than her mother to complain, apparently?

It seems a story with sordidness all around. They lured her not with roses but with cocaine, and one doesn’t usually try to pick up truly “random” victims by offering cocaine to all passers-by till one bites. You’ll quickly get a visit from the cops if you do.

So what’s proposed, parole? I’d like those who clamored the most loudly for him to get out to be the first whose neighborhoods are selected for him to be in.

What is a documented plan for change? I guess he will murder someone for an actual reason next time. Why do we rehabilitate and free a thrill killer. He should have paid for a senseless murder fourteen years ago.

If Ms. Descoteaux had been allowed to pack heat... we’d have a far different story here. She’d be around (assuming she kicked her coke habit) and these goons would long ago have been pushing up daisies.

My guess is that he wrote "I will not thrill kill" on the black board a hundred times....

Right you are. The Democrat politicians of Rhode Island are totally useless POS. They have no respect for human life except to keep killers from getting executed. Just look at their governors and Senators. That says it all.

The next time a big storm hits New England, I hope it takes out Rhode Island first, then Massachusetts, followed by Connecticut and Vermont.

Maybe we can salvage Maine and New Hampshire.

“There’s no reason to execute people. We just put them in prison for so long they’ll never get out.”

How many times have I heard that quote?

Start at the little toe and take one quarter inch at a time until this beast is dead.

Then publish what the mess looks like, and make it clear this is exactly what awaits anyone who does something similar.

It may not be nice, but I’m saying the instances of this type of thing will end.

I’m tired of our society being nice to humanity’s absolute worst.

I hope someone ends this guy before he can do a repeat.
