What's driving gun sales spike? Federal law, women and zombies

What's driving gun sales spike? Federal law, women and zombies.

BELLEVUE – Karen Manley stood strong in the range Tuesday afternoon, her right hand firmly gripping a handgun.

“There had been a rash of home invasions,” said Manley, of Brier. “If anything happens, I could defend myself, my kids, and my home.’

Women are just one factor behind a recent spree of gun sales, locally, and across the nation, according to gun lobbyists.

The FBI reported Tuesday that it received 154,873 buyer background check requests on Black Friday, up roughly 20 percent over the same day last year. The requests were so heavy, FBI call centers suffered two outages trying to keep up with demand.

“We were probably 30-35% ahead of what we expected (on Friday),” said Wade Gaughran of Wade’s Eastside Guns in Bellevue, who acknowledges sales have doubled since Election Day, and concerns over changes in the federal gun policy are prompting the spike. “I think (Obama’s) going to try and make something happen this time.”

“There is a concern in the United States about what is going to happen with firearms laws under the second Obama administration,” said Dave Workman, of the Second Amendment Foundation, who also cites economic conditions as a driver.

Workman also says a zombie fad is helping push sales too.

“There is quite a following on this zombie target shooting - the idea of shooting targets that look like weird strange zombie people instead of human silhouette targets or junk targets appeal to a lot of people,” said Workman.

But the President of Washington Ceasefire is not laughing about that explanation.

“It’s the usual paranoia, that Obama is the Boogeyman,” said Ralph Fascitelli, Board President of Washington Ceasefire. “Guns rights groups want to increase anxiety, membership. It’s all about money.”

Fascitelli added, “The more guns in a society, the more violence you’re gonna have.”

Speaking only for myself, I'm armed to protect myself against moronic oversimplifications & criminal stupidity like this.

I don’t think the MSM has caught on that by “zombies” we mean the entitlement class-when the money runs out.

I was in a Wal-Mart Supercenter a couple of days ago and noticed quite a few empty spaces in their gun rack. On the other hand the lcoal small Wal-Mart had a good selection.

I noticed the Marlin Model 60 was only $167 and the gun looked really sharp. It had some type of wood laminate stock. Also noticed the Ruger Ranch Rifle was just over $650. That is a bit high imo but it is cheaper than I have seen it anywhere else. They also had the Olympic Arms AR type for well under $700.

I think I might just get one of the Marlins. I remember the one my Father had was unusually accurate and completely reliable.

Interesting that they cite a gun controller named Ralph Fascitelli. The -telli ending to the name means “brothers” in Italian. Fasc-, well, let’s say that it is associated with Fascism or Fascist.

No, “fra” as a prefix means brother(s).

The “telli” means members, or adherants, or some kind of association. It could be family, or many other associative links.

I always find it amusing that the pro-gun community’s uphemism for feral urbans spawned an entire industry of movies, tv shows, clothes, etc.

Give me an idea of how much I can expect to spend for a pistol.....I’m thinking of a revolver.

I have seen some of the Rossi and Taurus revolvers for not much over $200. They are decent guns but for the better S&W models they probably start at around double that.

Smith & Wesson does sell a .22 auto for around $260 or a little more.

A decent revolver will probably be $400 or higher. Look at .357

I’m also looking for a good deal on a smaller handgun. A Christmas present for my wife. She loves shooting my 9mm but it’s more that she can handle and she needs something to keep in her purse. A friend suggested a Ruger SR22 - about $350.

A good friend lost the tip of his right thumb when the cylinder of a Rossi .357 blew.

Check out Hi-Point, they make a good weapon with a great deal of value. I have fired the 9mm and the .45 both were solid.
