The Jews in 1939 Germany suffered this too. They refused to allow themselves to accept the fact they were being exterminated because it defied all logic. They put their heads in the sand and refused to accept the fact that all the ‘hope and change’ Hitler used to transform Germany into the Third Reich, was being orchestrated to enable the German people to accept the criminalization and genocide of Hitler’s enemies. Here is another fun fact for you - one you may be totally ignorant of due your lifetime prosperity: people will betray their own flesh and blood for a mere promise of bread during a time of fear and privation.
