HOUSTONAs family members of a man who was shot by a Valero clerk in southeast Houston called for the store clerks arrest, the store owner released surveillance video.
Alexander Calloway, 21, and his two cousins were trying to enter the gas station on Martin Luther King and Belarbor around 3:30 a.m., but the store was locked.
The young men got into an argument with the clerk, who unlocked his door and came outside, police said.
Someone punched the clerk in the face and the clerk pulled out his gun and shot Calloway in the stomach, according to HPD.
Calloways cousins rushed him to a fire station on Cullen at Selinsky, and paramedics transported him to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.
On Tuesday, the store owner played the surveillance video for KHOU 11 News.
It showed the store clerk being punched by Calloway before the clerk opened fire.

Hard to infer any good intentions from the gentlemen attempting to get inside a closed business with a locked door...
Agree he should not have opened the door. Glad that he was ready to defend himself though, and that he followed through when needed.
The video link displays a nice orbiting arrow....
yeah, it takes a while to load
Absolutely. The arrogant attitude of some these people is twisted at best.
Looking at the stats, many more people die from punches and kicks, physical fights etc, than gun shots.
No mention of the fate of the perps two partners that fired lead into the store. It seems to me that should be a crime too.
No excuse for thrash like that to be loose on the streets. Too bad the clerk did not aim a little higher or lower.
The first mistake was working anywhere near a Martin Luther Kig street.
You know when you work there that you will be dealing with animals.
Never go near Martin Luther King street no matter what city you are in.
It was extremely stupid to open the door. He should have called police and waited the 15 minutes it takes for them to get there.
But keep the door locked.
I concur, he should not have gone outside. Maybe he became fed up with dealing with inner city trash on a daily basis.
Texas is a legal carry state. The punks KNEW the guy working the station would be armed. Darwin award nominees.
A stomach shot almost ensures the use of a colostomy bag for the rest of their life.
Man! I’m not believing that. Gas for $3.08?!
Yep. I’ve seen it less than that at Racetrack.
Prejudice is not bigotry or superstition, although prejudice sometimes may degenerate into these.
Prejudice is pre-judgment, the answer with which intuition and ancestral consensus of opinion supply a man when he lacks either time or knowledge to arrive at a decision predicated upon pure reason.

If the ghetto gangsta-punk-thug’s on welfare or taxpayer-funded medical, then a centermass or headshot is less cost to us.
As one who has had to do it I feel for him.
I hear that. I’m in Gainesville FL, but I go home to the Philly area twice a year still. Philly is truly a dump now.
Center-of-mass folks.
The idea is to have them rolling around “the hood” in a wheelchair with that unmistakable scent of an poorly maintained colostomy bag. i.e. someone to serve as a warning to others.
