It may be unpopular to say so, but it is true: the U.S. is very close to, if not past, the tipping point at which the majority of the people are net beneficiaries of big government or so they think. People who receive a check from the government may see voting for a smaller government as contrary to their best interest. If they dont pay taxes, why should they care about a tax increase?
Perceptions are, however, deceiving.Healthcare reform, as the (Un)Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) is billed, probably shows more clearly than anything else how most Americans, including Romneys notorious 47%, are harmed by government benefits.
Lower wage earners, who produce real goods or provide a service their fellow Americans value, pay for those benefits even if theyre not liable for federal income tax. Fifteen percent is taken right off the top of their earnings for the Social Security/Medicare tax. This is 100% a tax, and 0% an investment. It is 100% spent, immediately, on other peoples entitlements, with a politicians promise that the workers may get an entitlement someday, paid for by future workers if they and the program survive long enough.
All Americans, including the working poor, will, as early as 2013, be hit with the medical device tax and the rest of some 18 ObamaCare-related tax hikes amounting to perhaps $500 billion. Starting in 2014 is the ObamaTax proper, the individual and employer mandate.

Well, what did you tell them?
It is the will of Allah.
Social Security is indeed an entitlement program. Your feeling that you are deserving of it doesn’t change the fact. Social Security should be phased out as quickly as possible.
Not sure what he thought, but he did accuse me of prying into his personal business. Of course, that was not my intention or even my point. I just wanted him to realize the consequences of this horrible law.
When people start getting denial of treatment for their sick parents and infants, I think that will be the end of it all. I honestly don’t believe our country will accept what people in Britian and the Netherlands are forced to accept. We still retain a strong idealism toward individual personhood. I guess we will see what this will come to in the next few years.
Oh please do tell us how you carved them a new orifice, and how they responded, isn't wonderful to have clueless socialist relatives devoid of concepts such as expenses, revenue and profit? Please pass the Mashed Potatoes....
It will be free to the 47%. It’s the rest of us who will pay through the nose.
Now, phasing out Social Security may or may not be a good idea, but the current loan to the government will need to be paid back or otherwise set aside by law.
Politicians who imagine they can just take it are both stupid and foolish.
Yep. Exactly right. Of course Romney never expected the remarks to be made public but the lesson there is ALWAYS expect any remarks anywhere to be made public if you running for President. The other lesson is to attack policies not voters. There is no point is pissing off half the voters. Instruct them how dem leftist policies will hurt them and their families. Make it personal as if their lives depend on it.
They will blame it on Bush.
Nice table.
Speaking of which. This afternoon I stopped off at a cafe for a snack and overheard the following:
Woman 1 to male barista: [anti-religious joke]
Male barista to Woman 1: yeah, I never believed much of that stuff anyway
Woman 1 to male barista: How can you believe it when people just pick one verse and hammer away at it and ignore everything else
Woman 1 to Woman 2 (female barista): Have you heard that thing about Romney talking about "gifts" to special interests?
Woman 2 to Woman 1: Yeah, I heard about it, about it being "gifts"
Woman 1 [cackles smugly]
The SF Bay Area is THICK with these people. You bump into them everywhere. Eavesdrop on those coffee house conversations. Make your way, if you dare, into the dark land of the progressive heathen.
I spoke to my Conservative Enrolled Agent gnome on this.
Her claim is that the 16,000 are not for Obamacare and the IRS refuses to enforce it.
What is scarier is what they will do with the 16,000 in a sense.
They are staffing up for the the testing that will occur next year for tax professionals to aquire a new federal license and Earned Income Credit checking / enforcement.
For one I believe her. The EIC is a nightmare with all the funky new households with multi-generations living together and everybody broke and out of work, that leads me to believe their must be a ton of bad-files in this area, by self filers, maybe even pro's..... That is a lot to digest and get your arms around....
they will push to raise your taxes higher
Just what we didn’t need.
A full employment program for all the law school grads that couldn’t find jobs in the Baraqqi Depression.
Perhaps there will be an earthquake...
What do you mean “cost”? It’s free, the Food Stamp President said so, and it’s a right!
Your definition is wrong.

Social Security is completely unsustainable. Recipients receive much more than they paid in. It is a giant Ponzi scheme and needs to be terminated for the good of the country.
They won't think about that until January 2015 when they go to do their 2014 taxes.
Talk to you tax pro(s) the ones I know are freaking....
True... but the actual fine for not having insurance doesn’t start until the tax year 2014 as far as I know. Other taxes in the bill will of course affect many people in 2013.
