Dave Roberts Brings Diversity To The San Diego County Supervisors He is the first Democrat on the board in more than two decades. He's also the first new supervisor in 18 years. And he's a gay, married father of five.
Newly elected San Diego County Supervisor Dave Roberts, right, and his spouse, Wally Oliver, center, with their five children, from left: Alex Oliver, 12, Robert Roberts, 17, Natalee Roberts, 4, Joe Roberts, 5, and Julian Oliver, 8, at Del Mar City Beach.
By Tony Perry, Los Angeles Times November 23, 2012 DEL MAR In January, when he joins the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, Dave Roberts will be the only Democrat among four Republicans, the first Democrat on the board in more than two decades.
He will also be the first new supervisor in 18 years. And he will be the only one who is not a graduate of San Diego State. He has three degrees from American University in Washington, D.C.
He's also gay and married to a retired Air Force master sergeant. The two are adoptive parents to five former foster children, ages 4 to 17, who call them Daddy Dave and Daddy Wally.
With Roberts' election to a district representing a portion of San Diego and several seaside communities north of the city, diversity has arrived for the Board of Supervisors, long one of the region's most homogenous governing bodies.
"I'm going to bring some unique characteristics," Roberts, 51, said with a laugh during a family outing on the beach here.
Roberts hopes to concentrate on the same issues he focused on while serving on the Solana Beach City Council, where he is currently deputy mayor: regional fire protection, expansion of the San Dieguito River Park and "sensible" growth

It would seem to me that the San Diego County Board of Supervisors would have more pressing problems than the lack of “diversity”.
My hometown.
GAG.
” And he’s a gay, married father of five.”
Hell; he reminds me of the HOMOPOTUS!!!! Married and the “father” of two!
He’s not “married.” He’s shacked up with another homo and pretending to be married; but married he’s not.
Heterosexuality had to happen somewhere in his life for him to become a father of one let alone five.
Ahh, Perversity, it’s a wonderful thing...
Nope, they’re adopted.
>> He’s also gay
When the “gay” flag is raised, is the intent to elicit mental images of one male sticking his penis up the rectal cavity of another male? Are tap shoes involved?
Which means heterosexuality had to occur somewhere in these children’s biological parents’ life. I’m still waiting for the evidence that either two males can reproduce a child without a female or that two females can reproduce a child without a male.
When I saw the name and “San Diego” I thought of baseball player Dave Roberts (who later went to SD?) of the Red Sox in 2004. His stolen base in game 4 started it all. If that didn’t happen, the Red Sox would not have gone on to beat the Yanks in games 4, 5, 6, and 7 (and then win their first WS since
1986 when they swept STL).
So, different one...
(game 4 of the ALCS I mean)
I really didn’t need to read that. Bad visual.
If that isn’t bad enough, the mayor race was between a queer Republican and a communist democrat and the communist, Filner won!
Number one. Be honest in reporting.
The man is not “gay”, he is a homosexiual
I find most folks in public life are particularly protective of their children NOT being on camera. In this case, it seems to matter that they are.
Then the kids were foster children, later adopted by two homosexuals.
While some foster parents are very good, there are those who are very bad. Who knows? (not enough information).
The "parents" the children have now are adoptive, not a biological parent of the children, which was my point. In this instance, "Parent" is a legal designation, not a biological one.
