A top Republican senator is casting aside an anti-tax pledge he signed, saying that solving the countrys looming fiscal crisis is more important than honoring the decades-old pact.

I think there will be a tax on earned income over $1 million.
Who better can GA put up in 2014?
Indeed. As was Johnny Isackson (sp?). Chambliss is an embarrassment to the State of Georgia.
Good for Chambliss. It’s more than OBVIOUS, even on this site, that Americans are not ready to make the sacrifices needed to get spending down to the level of present taxation.
Even here, older people will not EVEN CONSIDER reforming their welfare programs (i.e., Social Security and Medicare), if it might mean one less dime of goodies for them.
Well, I see my kids being hit with over a trillion dollars of new debt every year. I also know that my 401k’s and IRAs are about to get seized by the government to pay for these goodies. So if Saxby is willing to start having people (including conservatives here) start paying for the level of services that they DEMAND, then I wish him the best of luck.
I say give the rats everything they want for now. It will either kill them or kill America (which is more probable) but at least we can rise like the Phoenix in 4 years with no opposition. I’m sure the Lord will keep an eye on us!
We don’t need Grahamesty II, but Chambliss is well on his way there, started out Conservative, but has had the GOP lobotomy.
Social security is the epitome of a Ponzi scheme and, as such, is immoral. Whether we want to or not, we will get rid of both it and MediCare (Obamacare). We are bankrupt! Do the math. Programs like them are unsustainable - and a key element of Socialism. They seem fantastic until we “run out of other people’s money,” to quote Margaret Thatcher.
I’d like to see a primary challenger go up against Chambliss.
The Norquist pledge defines any increase in the tax base ( for example, by closing loopholes) as a tax increase. We need another Reagan-era Grand Bargain, like the 1986 tax reform, that lowers tax rates in exchange for tax-code simplification that closes loopholes.
The two Senator we have are WORTHLESS
Mixed feelings. I believe in a tax pledge, but Grover Noquist is a Sharia-apologist and pro-amnesty douchebag, and I would be happy to see him blacklisted by the GOP and conservatives.
No mention of Herman Cain here.
You just mentioned him!
Your views are characterstic of a RINO, or maybe a CINO.
What is happening here? How could any conservative think that America has more to lose by going over the cliff than by having Republicans “reach across the aisle”?

Thank you! You get a gold star for saying what needed to be said about soft-jihad-sympathizer Grover Norquist (or, is that el-Guruuver Norqist).
If we cannot advocate lower taxes without invoking his name, we have no hope. We need the lower taxes, not the leadership of a man married to a Muslim Palestinian woman and ... well, he is human, after all.
Which brings up another concern: Norquist and Newsmax are joined at the hip.
It is strange how folks — e.g., Pat Dollard, Gateway Pundit, and Rick Perry — who otherwise seem to get the Muslim threat from within to some extent — are somehow associated with either Norquist or Newsmax in some way.
Makes no sense.

“Chambliss swerved to the left long before the DemocRATS held the last presidential election.”
The longer Republican politicians spend in Washington, the more opportunities to fall to temptation. Chambliss must have a juicy FBI file. Holder is a master at applying the squeeze.

It’s more what he represents than who he is. I don’t think %99.9 of those who sign that pledge no much about him.
