Black Friday Begins (Early): Walmart Workers Already Striking in at Least Seven States
The Nation ^

Posted on 11/22/2012 11:31:32 PM PST by matt04

It’s on.

A year and a half after retail workers announced the founding of a new Walmart employee group, five months after guest workers struck a Walmart seafood supplier, and seven weeks after the country’s first multi-store Walmart strikes, the Black Friday strike has begun.

...

Expectations are high for a historic strike. Given Walmart’s role as the dominant employer of our era, the current wave of work stoppages is already among the country’s most consequential twenty-first century strikes. But in interviews this month, workers and organizers described today’s actions as a turning point, not a climax, in their struggle against the retail giant. “This is the beginning of something…” said Dan Schlademan, a United Food & Commercial Workers union official who directs the allied group Making Change at Walmart. “This is a new permanent reality for Walmart…2012 is the beginning of the season where retail workers are going to start to stand up.”

“There’s going to be more days that we’re going to strike,” said Rozier, “and it’s not going to stop. I’m not going to stop until they respect us and give us what we want.”

Bogus, dufus. I fObama weren’t President this couple could land employment
at a higher rate. Jobs are almost non existent.
friend ,this is Obama’s brave new world.

The Baker’s union closed down Hostess where wages and benefits were decent. $22.00/ per hour ain’t bad sherlock.

Ever take Econ 101?

What amazes me is how so few people connect low wages with all the immigration. Shrink the labor pool, and employers would have to pay more. Supply and demand. Yet unions and others of their ilk’ support uncontrolled immigration.

Either that or they’ll choose to film one or two stores where the thugs are trying to infiltrate and make everyone think its a nationwide happening.

If these people want to keep their jobs, they should just show up and do them. I worked retail for many years and had to work crazy hours, weekends, and holidays. Holidays were mostly voluntary and I always volunteered because you got time and a half which helped on the pay check. I also picked up any overtime when it was offered. I liked my job and needed a steady paycheck.

The thugs have been trying to infiltrate WM for years to unionize it. I think they are playing with fire here just like they did with Hostess. They only care about their own fat paychecks. Remember the movie Norma Rae? She was a useful tool for the union.

What is so terrible about the working conditions at Walmart? I know for a fact that a vast majority of WLmarts have a waiting list of folks that want to work there. Is this jet another case of the “me” generation who want everything give to them? Is Walmart doing anything illegal in their hiring or employee compensation? I think not! Jealous comparisons between those at the bottom of a corporate pay scale to those at the top are just that: intellectual jealousy. Why are these people no complaining about celebrity earnings? Position and talent differences matter! If Walmart is so bad, leave and use all those talents the complainers have to simply get a better paying job. There is a waiting list of similarly talented and experienced folks who can say “Welcome to Walmart”!

This story is essentially a fabrication by ‘The Nation’, a communist/Democrat propaganda organ published and edited by Katrina vanden Heuvel, and kept afloat by big time lefty “donors”.

With this story ‘The Nation’ is acting as one corner of an Alinksy diamond in the hope that a few more facets of the diamond will be established, if only a few Democrat “mainstream” newsroom allies would pick up the damn cue and follow suit. The problem the newsrooms are having (and the newsrooms would love to help out) is actually finding a Walmart that is experiencing a genuine walkout issue of any significance. And I’m pretty sure union operatives have placed “plants” in the employment of many Walmart stores to agitate and organize... and to “walk out” on cue.

Those Wal-Mart employees who worked Thanksgiving day will be given an extra 10% off on a one time shopping trip on December 6th and 7th. This is on top of the everyday 10% they get off merchandise and at this time of year they also get 10% off all grocery items. So on that one time shopping trip they will get 20% off everything they have in their cart(s) when they check out. If they are only buying Grocery Items in a state like Texas (no sales Tax on grocery’s) that is a true 20% off.

I just don’t understand. If people don’t like working for Walmart, just quit and take your rocket science skill levels somewhere else.

If they want more perhaps they should find a job that pays more.

What's with the first guy in the photo?

At first I thought he was screaming from hunger pains.

How much should an employer pay someone who puts cans on the shelf?

I've seen the people who work at my local Walmart.

F’em let em walk
For retirees this is a god send.Let the fools hit the street.
Every one will benefit, minimum wage part timers will see the unemployment bennies for them as a part timer suck and they are now with out a job and big labor shoved it up their butt, retirees will find some added income and move up the corporate ladder from greeter to “associate”(yipee),the customers will deal with normal looking employees vs some scum bag that looks like they fell face 1st into a tackle box and Wall mart will still pay a dividend.

If that’s their net they should take a look at their pay stub and wonder why the gooberment is taking so much of their wages. Then, they should figure out what they need do to climb the ladder and make more. They may or may not realize it will take some effort and sacrifice. And, it could occur to them that they could fit in another 10 or 20 hours working somewhere else, and make even more money. But somehow I don’t think their little hamster wheels are turning that way.

Our Walmart in Paola, Kansas, was fully staffed, in fact there were more staff then I have ever seen. Staff all over the store being very helpful. Staff at both Paola, and Ottawa, Ks Walmart are very happy to work there. These are some of the choice/ most wanted jobs in our area. If a worker wants to quit there are plenty of folks here eager to fill his or her spot.
