More live chilrun, more EITC money, more TANF money, bigger Section 8 house, more WICs, more Obama Phones....more everything.
Who provides the stats?
The Guttmacher Institute in 1968 was founded as the Center for Family Planning Program Development, a semi-autonomous division of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Center was renamed in memory of Alan Frank Guttmacher, an Ob/Gyn and former president of Planned Parenthood, and the Guttmacher Institute became an independent, not-for-profit corporation in 1977.
More Mexicans equals more Catholics equals fewer abortions....maybe.
I’ll be crass and say that it probably has to do with people having less money to do the things that result in the cause of “unplanned” pregnancy. Fewer drinks over the course of an evening out, fewer cruises, fewer all-nighters at dance clubs, fewer chances to flirt on exotic beaches in the moonlight., etc. etc.
Fewer abortion candidates might make for fewer abortions. And the impact of video games, Obamaphones, etc. to provide entertainment would lead to less personal interaction, which would lead to less sex, etc.
When did the morning after pill go over the counter? When did RU486 become legal? What are the sales figures on those drugs?
If abortion were banned, the Dems would never lose another election. The ones having most of the abortions like their Obamaphones.
the abortion rate will be influenced by the unemployment/underemployment rate
male birds have brightly colored feathers, male humans have printed pieces of paper and shiny objects
One factor listed in the original CDC report is that, as the economy tanked, the use of contraceptives went up. That suggests that a number of women didn’t want the cost of a child OR an abortion.
Another factor is that the use of contraceptives among teens has gone up; at the time of the report, over 60% of sexually active teens were using contraceptives, whereas 10 years before, less than 50% were using them.
I would say these are good trends, and I hope they continue.
I also hypothesize that the willingness to have abortions is largely controlled by genetics; as more of the genes predisposing women to have abortions are removed from the population, the fewer abortions there will be.
