About 20 people gathered in front of the Oakland Walmart store on Edgewater Drive Wednesday to demand better pay and work schedules.
Richmond Walmart store employee Anthony Bravo joined fellow demonstrators and said the company starts associates at minimum wage, but reported $15 billion in profits last year.
We didnt see nothing. I didnt see none of that. It really makes me upset that they can make all of this money out of profits and were barely surviving, Bravo said.
With the chant of Walmart, Walmart youre no good. Treat your workers like you should, Bravo and the others marched through the stores with signs for about 10 minutes.

The Communist Chinese agree with you Pollyanna.
Tho shall not covet thy neighbors goods...yep, they are democrats and unions...
The framers also didn’t conceive the idea of 50% taxation, EPA, keeping water from farmers because of a minnow, not allowing a land owner to till a field because of a rat or bug, or needing the governments permission to dig a well or where one could put up a barn, or tanks used against the citizens. People with your crappy attitude are the reason jobs over out of the country....In the 1800’s unions were necessary for safety reasons, not for running the shops they work in....or a state not being free to choose not to have a union...Your head must be stuck in an interesting place.....
The one in front on the right, I’d hit it.
Then these losers can get off their lazy butts, get trained and find better employment, oh that’s right, America has talent that MUST be watched, right? Or ballgames, mindless sitcoms, or there’s always PLENTY of drugs and booze to scarf up! Are you sure you`re on the right site, there teffy?
No no yankee, no hit, you get bag of tainted doggy yums yums...You like, be proud!
So I should pay 4 times the price for a “widget” made by some lazy imbecile just to keep that moron employed? Especially when, if made here, it could be made cheaper and BETTER on an automated line?
Not sure what that means, Karl.
hey have WalMart in China — and that is, why, Mr. Marx?
Wheres the viking kitties when you need them?
OH, there are definitely a few management positions that those who want to go that route can pursue. But the majority of people who are working at Walmart fall into a couple of categories: passing through or no where else to go. Like I mentioned to someone else, my son made it to a supervisor position in a little over a year, a 20 yo man. A lot of responsibility, probably more than I have at my job, in terms of making sure product is on the shelves, that inventories are replenished appropriately, ensuring that seasonal displays are rotated through on time, and supporting suppliers.
It’s so the Communist Chinese can buy American made products!
I give this a 7 on the honking hoot scale.
>>Its so the Communist Chinese can buy American made products!

I am not sure it works that way nor am I clear on your point, Mr. Marx.
But the hoots on the one on the right are indeed around a 7.
I have no doubt about that!
Whatever you say, karl.
The problem is that employers would use that to string people along while transferring few to none towards conventional employment. People that are competent at their job would end up being declared just below the bar that converts them to permanent employees. You would end up creating another group of indentured servants.
Evidence of that can be found with the Georgia’s job tryout program and the UK’s implementation of a similar program. In addition, the H1-b skilled guest worker program also proves the same point(not many become citizens). In all cases, you would be creating another problem; it might even cause people to not want to pursue work for being treated with contempt.
What happened to the idea of business and their workers working together instead of using the government to get at each other’s throats?
Oh I’ve noticed that for years, thank you very much. I’ve long argued that we are a de facto one-party state (the party having two wings called ‘rats and pubblies), and that this party is in league with the very unsavory elements you’ve described.
“Do you know what really killed Hostess? (hint it wasnt the Union).”
No, all the union killed was 18,000 jobs by being so f’ing obstinate. Yes, a 30% pay cut is a hard thing to take, but 70% of something is better than 100% of nothing. Where do you suppose all those people are going to find work in this economy? (hint - more drain on the unemployment fund that our employers pay into).
BTW, the union bosses will still be drawing their six-figure salaries. You think they give two s#its about the workers?
Because that is the way government likes it.
When everyone is able to clamor for government favors, it empowers more and more expensive government.
If you have a valuable skill and do not like your working conditions, you should be free to shop around. Same with the company.
When government gets involved, everything goes bad.
Except that the “company” often has far more leverage than a mere jobseeker, especially in a bad economy. When there is so much disparity in bargaining ability, the disadvantaged party needs some help.
