GULF COVE, Fla. - A man out on a walk Tuesday morning came face to face with two charging dogs in Gulf Coast. He shot and killed one of the dogs.

A witness told deputies he saw the entire incident in the area of Gillot Boulevard and Holton Terrace.

Deputies met with Frank Gross, 63, who lives several blocks away on Flemming Street. He advised he was out for his usual five-mile walk along the same route he takes every day. He said two large Boxer dogs were let out of the home at 5403 Holton Terrace and were not on leashes. Gross said he was across the street and the two dogs came charging towards him. He said he yelled for the dogs to get back, but they kept coming. Fearing for his safety, Gross told deputies he reached into his fanny pack and withdrew a .22 caliber pistol and fired one shot killing one of the dogs; the second dog fled.

How would a stranger know that your dog wasn't charging to attack?

The main reason would be is because he is a Boxer. They are not attack dogs. Being behind a gate and fence also doesn't allow him to do anything except run to the gate.

I have been called a lot of names in 73 years, some good, some bad, only a couple of them deserved a punch in the mouth, but I’ll have to add yours to a whole new class of butt names.. The great thing about reaching my age, we don’t embarass that easily. And we don’t suffer fools gladly....not that I am calling you a fool, just a figure of speech..Iknow what a psychic is but what is a (sarc), Is it good or bad... PS thank you for saying bordering, I prefer jackass, you can ride them, don’t know what to do with butt head or bevis....

So then 63 year old Quick Draw McGraw pulls off a miraculous shot at a moving target??? after waiting, mind you, until after he gives the dogs fair warning to stop??? and after that as the dogs are still not listening to his command and still charging at him full speed, he reaches dexterously into his zipped up fanny pack, not his holster, mind you, but his fanny pack and pulls out his pistol and with one shot at the moving target just happens to get lucky????

Sorry but those of us here who know dogs and guns know better.

This was a safe middle class neighborhood where the man walked everyday and Quickdraw knew the exact address of the house where the dogs came from. It's not like he was out in the wilderness somewhere and this was a pack of hungry wild dogs.

Did Quickdraw have any injuries from the second dog??? No??? Why not??? What was the other dog doing while he was shooting his roommate -- reading him his rights???

Those who have dogs and watched dogs and who have been on this planet long enough as this guy has know exactly what these dogs did. They charged and stopped short and barked as some dogs do at strangers who look suspicious to them.

Unless he is Roy Rogers he couldn't have hit a moving target with one shot and if you lived in that neighborhood unless he was Roy Rogers you wouldn't want him taking that shot -- and risk missing and hitting something or someone else.

And if he wasn't still charging at him at the time, but a foot in front of him barking, then he had no cause to shoot him.

If you have spent 63 years on this planet and can't handle a situation like this without pulling a gun and discharging it then put your fanny pack away and stay home.

But, let's not forget that the dogs' owners admitted he frequently turned his dogs out, unleashed and unsupervised.

And in all those times they had not attacked or bitten anyone else, and they didn't in this case either.

The guy with the loaded fanny pack needs to have a leash put on him or his wife shouldn't let him out.

I wouldn't want him walking through my neighborhood.

Thank you Uncle Chip. Ol’ Dan may be related to Chet, just picking on a different breed. In addition to my Boxer, I also have a pit bull. Yes, two dogs...a pack. I established the pecking order when they were young and we still go by it.
I know my dogs and they understand what is required of them. And let me say this, being around them is the most rewarding part of my day.

Dogs are naturally protective of their owners, their domicile, and their neighborhood. I noticed that the neighbors had no problem with these dogs even though they were out in the neighborhood at times. And in this day and age if someone else's dog as much as scratches another person -- they have recourse to the courts and Judge Judy.

Dogs will bark at strangers, and suspicious people, and at people in general running or walking by their houses. Sometimes they will want to get up close enough to sniff them and check them out -- and then all is okay.

It's what dogs do to protect their surroundings from danger, and in this case these dogs were right. There was something not quite right with fanny pack man and these dogs knew it and one of them paid for it with his life.

Keep your dogs under control and there won’t be a problem.

I could give a crap why they are charging. I’m not risking injury because you are too damn lazy to properly care for your property.

Keep fanny packing quickdraw under control and there won’t be a problem. Tell him to keep his bullets in his gun in my neighborhood.

Buy him one of these for Xmas:

So then everytime a gun owner pulls out his gun and shoots someone or some dog, a 2nd Amendmenter is supposed to throw his brain out the window and pin an award on the shooter??? Get real —

First rule of gun ownership: Use your weapon as last resort — not first — something fanny packman forgot or never learned or never intended to keep.
