He said he earned roughly $35,000 with overtime last year, down from about $45,000 five years ago.

I wish they would have put in how much the salary is without bonus. For example, if they make 10 dollars an hour which is most likely then the yearly salary is 19,200 and add 35,000 to that amount and they are only making 54,200 a year which is before taxes and is not a great wage. Why are they only focusing on the overtime. Another distorted article.

You're quite right....As far as we know...he could have made $200 of that $35,000 in overtime.

And I'm betting the $45,000 paycheck.....5 YEARS AGO...is some sort of fib....

"not a great wage"

Probably because it's not a great job. Certainly not a great career, but a great motivator for not letting the grass grow under foot. Ken is simply identified as a "worker," who spent 23 years in a vulnerable dead end job, kept on life support by union intervention, but ultimately euthanized by same. I assume he wasn't a plant engineer with advanced degree in industrial engineering. He made $45K with benefits, pouring bread dough into baking tins, and claims they were taking from him?

Part of me feels bad for the guy; another part wants to kick him in the a$$. He and his ilk chose to take down the company, putting a lot of other people out of work who likely didn’t feel the same way he did.

A more rational outcome would be to take the deal and keep working at Hostess until you find another, better job. The mere fact that he didn’t do that long ago speaks volumes about his prospects and/or judgement.

This guy doesn’t have a plan—all he has are hard feelings. That’s not exactly a recipe for success.

“He said he earned roughly $35,000 with overtime last year, down from about $45,000 five years ago.”

Who was president 5 years ago? Who is responsible for the
hardships at Hostess? Unions wanted Obama and now they are
too ckicken$h1T to admit who’s really responsible for this
disaster. Sorry to say but the unions have to go.

More interesting would be knowing what his position was, and how come he is only making $35,000 a year after 23 years on the job. My first real job about 25 years ago paid $36k and I was inexperienced and unskilled at the time. O also worked construction in the early 90’s at over $13/hour.

Maybe it sounds cruel, but people can earn what they're worth if they put some effort into it. Unions tend to kill that progress in people.

The guy worked there for 23 years and only makes 35K? Either he got demoted, is insanely stupid and can’t get a job elsewhere, or this is total BS!

“54,200 a year which is before taxes and is not a great wage”

It’s the national average and damned good considering it’s unskilled workers.

Yeah, baby. That is what I was making before the crash and I lost that good job. Be a MAKER. And try and live in this world.

Your mindset and attitude is the EXACT same as all the rest of the takers. Yeah, you got yours, didn't you? And now you're "safe". ESAD.
