The goal was to get Jack Taylor out of a shooting slump. He did that. Then he went out and scored the most points ever in a college basketball game.
Taylor, a Black River Falls High School graduate, is about to get his 15 minutes of national fame after scoring an NCAA-record 138 points for Grinnell College in a 179-104 victory over Faith Baptist Bible College on Tuesday night in Grinnell, Iowa...
The previous NCAA record was held by Clarence Bevo Francis, who scored 113 points in a 1954 game for Division II Rio Grande....

Bevo set a an earlier record of 116 points against Ashland, KY which was retroactively taken away by the NCAA. Bevo and that Rio Grand team were no fluke. They played in Madison Square Garden and beat some major teams of the day:
Google ‘bevo francis dunks’ for more stories and video on this legendary player.
Again, you totally ignored the time element. Why?
He couldn't even play for a division 3 school
Irrelevant. I played Division 1 basketball and firing up a shot every 20 seconds for an entire 40 minutes would be extremely tiring.
I didn’t play Div I basketball. Your point, I believe, is that Taylor’s exploits indicated he is an extraordinary ballplayer. I heartily disagree. He’s from my part of the country and couldn’t even find playing time at the local Div. III college.
Wrong again. Taylor's exploit was extraordinary. If it weren't, others would have done it, correct?
C’mon pal, what are the circumstances? It was hardly more than a YMCA gunfest.
“I guess if you are going to take 108 shots in a game (more than double what Bevo had), you are probably going to set a record.”
Way back when I played at that level if he was that big a ball hog that he would take 108 shots, we would not have cared if his coach and teammates were ok with it, he would have been getting up off the floor about 100 times. That BS would not stand. He would have had a better chance of getting hurt than setting a record. It’s a team game. Pass the ball jackass!

Good report on the game.
If it were as easy as you have indicated by your incessant whining, why haven't others, done the same? You keep avoiding the question.....for good reason!
Thanks. It appears the only people pissed about what happened are those who weren't involved. Anyone remember Tark's Runnin' Rebels?
Because virtually no other schools have a system like that.
Which makes Taylor's exploit extraordinary.
RIO GRANDE, Ohio University of Rio Grande mens basketball scoring legend Clarence Bevo Francis offered his congratulations to Grinnell Colleges Jack Taylor on his 138-point outing against Faith Baptist Bible on Tuesday night.
Taylors performance topped the previous NCAA record of 113 points set by Francis 59 years ago against Hillsdale (Mich.) in Jackson, Ohio.
When I scored all those points, I broke someones record. Records are made to be broken, Francis said. I want to send out my congratulations to the young man for a great night of basketball and wish him all the luck in the future.

I saw film clips of Francis, and I’ll tell you what...he looked like a hell of a ballplayer. I mean one who could be a good player today at an elite level...even the pros. Taylor will go no further than where he is right now.
That in no way diminishes Taylor's extraordinary accomplishment. You seem to suffer from it. Try putting ice on it.
I don’t suffer from it amigo. The game was a farce, but the level of competition doesn’t rise above joke status. If you want to believe some player scoring over 100 points in a joke league hardly better than YMCA ball is an extraordinary achievement, then go ahead. Have a nice day sir.
Your opinion means nothing. The extraordinary accomplishment is in the official NCAA record book! Can I get you a box of tissues?
Au contraire, my opinion means everything to me...just as it, your opinion, does to you. We’re arguing over a sporting event...nothing more.
Unfortunately for you, the NCAA doesn't care.
How do you know? They might care a lot.
