Kevin McCarthy was a staunch defender of these new lines, reassuring everyone that Republicans would fare just fine under them, said Jon Fleischman of the Flash Report, the much-read online newsletter on California politics. Clearly, this turned out not to be the case although he was easily re-elected to the safe seat drawn for him. Had he drawn a competitive district, I wonder if he would have been so enthusiastic about the lines he helped stopped others from trying to stop.

Gerrymandering is just voter fraud with a fancy name. Just vote by counties.
“Kevin McCarthy” YET another “soft-handed” “Female Part”!
Good thing I didn’t take the state GOP’s advise and vote ‘yes’ on the new district lines /s
I see the Democrats having the meetings like the Nazis,
“Zis Distrikt ist now Republikanfrei!”
Conservatives should just Go Galt and leave California ASAP. Maybe move to Nevada and Colorado to shore up the patriots who have had the brain dead zombies invade them.
That way, when the inevitable happens, they won’t be around to suffer the consequences or get blamed for it.
I thought Republicans were an extinct specie in California?
CA Republicans? Haven’t they been put on the Endangered Species List?
I personally don’t think the congessional lines made THAT much of a difference.
What is really killing the GOP in CA is party registration, down to 29% statewide, 16% in LA. Just barely ahead of Declined to State. If current trends continue by 2014 GOP will be third in the state behind the Dems and Declined to State. There are now only 15 GOP congressman left out 0f 53 in the state delegation. The Dems now have super majorities in both houses of the state legislature, they can now pass tax increases without having to go to ballot initiatives. The GOP in CA has effectively been driven out of all of the major metropolitan areas except for Orange County. What few congressmen and state legislators we have left are mostly found in the most rural and remote corners of the state. Three more GOP congressmen were defeated in the last election-—Mary Bono Mack, Dan Lungren, and Brian Bilbray. CA is now as solidly blue as one party states like MA, RI, CT, and VT.
Sorry, Reagan Country is a thing of the past. Too bad CA used to be such a great state with a strong vibrant economy. Now an economic basket case, third highest unemployment rate in the nation, cities left and right filing for bankruptcy. The state government drowning in an ocean of debt.
Not my state anymore (yes I still live here) not my country anymore.

McCarty, Boner, Canther, all worthless t_ats.
I don't know the answer, but what the CA r party has been doing to date certainly is not it.
“Gerrymandering is just voter fraud with a fancy name. Just vote by counties.”
That’s what I would do for nationals. Every county gets 1 vote. Most counties won takes the prize. Should also be that way for the senate.
“Republicans” in Tallahassee gerrymandered Allen West out of congress.
I must agree with those people who think that the California Republican Party is on the verge of extinction. The fact of party registration being down is, in part, of its own making. It was incapable of explaining its reason for being. It gave conservatives, or otherwise independent voters no reason to join it. It truly was a “Country Club.” And, that’s the way they wanted it!
Why?
Demographics, demographics, demographics. I think whites are now down to less than 40% of the population statewide, less than 30% of the poulation in L.A. County which contains a quarter of the population in the state.
While the voters in this state (including yours truly) rightly passed Prop 187 (initiative denying state services to illegal aliens) in turned the overwhelming majority of hispanics solidly against the GOP. And all of the brainwashing and indoctrination which goes on these public schools-—I know I have a child a in public school-—these kids learn far more about Cesar Chavez and Martin Luther King than they do about our founding fathers and the reasons for our Revolutionary War. There are so many factors. The GOP brand in California is about as popular as a case of hemmeroids. Gay marriage is viewed as sacrosant. People are covered from head to toe with piercings and tattoos. You can’t light up a cigarette anywhere around here without having the SWAT team called out, yet pot dipensaries are all over the place. This place is beyond disgust. Truly the entitlement ethic has repaced the work ethic. So sad too, the state could be booming if it wanted too. There is PLENTY of oil here and other natural resources. But the libtards are adamantly opposed to drilling for it. We could have a real strong agricultural sector too, but the libs are more interested in protecting the Delta Smelt as opposed to providing water to the farmers. Even filming in Hollyweird is in decline, thanks mostly to high taxes and the unions. Unions run EVERYTHING here and control Sacramento completely. Things really suck here. No one thinks things through. People have their heads up their asses. So pathetic. CA has become a gigantic pig sty. Dems and unions run everything. To hell with business. They don’t care. Just as long as people can get their welfare checks and gimmees. Bill O’Reilly and Mitt Romney were absolutel right: The election was all about people wanting free stuff, not jobs.
There are approximately 3000+ organized counties or county equivalents in the US. Do you think we should have 3000 representatives in the House?
You can't organize federal election by county. The population is not distributed even close to even in them. For example, Democrats in dense urban areas, for example, would simply create 100 new counties to increase their total number of representatives. Republicans in rural areas could break up their big counties with low populations into small counties with even lower population in order to increase their vote totals.
What you propose doesn't even make sense.
Hear Hear! Couldn’t agree with you more.
I would add one item, a whole lot of dem voters are white.
I think the actual division is not brown/white, it is govt workers vs private sector.
The govt workers fail to realize where their bucks actually originate, hence the crash (which is occuring as we speak) will be a surprise to many who feed from the trough.
Yup, this was the turning point. The left used that to turn Hispanics against the GOP. California is almost a foreign country now. It's completely lost. Within 5 years the US Federal Government will end up bailing CA out. People say it won't happen, but it will.
Demographics are why in not too many years conservatives won't even be able to count on Texas or Arizona.
People often say they "trust the American people to do the right thing" when it comes to elections. I say, the American people aren't immune from voting idiotically for generations at a time just like people do in other countries. Our Hispanic immigrants come from a place that voted for the same Socialist party (PRI) for 70 years straight - this despite the fact that Mexico was a crap hole the entire time. What makes people think they wouldn't do the same thing here? And it isn't as if this is all the Hispanics fault. FDR was, economically, a complete failure - yet the American people elected him 4 times.
We've crossed the tipping point and are now a European social welfare state. Once a people go down this road there is almost no possibility of reversing the decline. It just has to spiral down till the house of cards collapses.
