Allen West concedes to Patrick Murphy

Florida Rep. Allen West — the tea party pugilist and face of the class of House Republicans that stormed to power two years ago — conceded Tuesday to 29-year-old construction executive Patrick Murphy in one of the nation’s highest-profile congressional races.

After two weeks of battle with St. Lucie County elections officials — and a recount of early votes that wound up extending Murphy’s lead — West acknowledged that he couldn’t surmount his 1,904-vote, or 0.58 percent, deficit. That difference was just outside the 0.5 percent threshold to automatically trigger a recount of all votes.

Polls indicated that Romney was going to win the election. The economy is close to Great Depression era conditions, and unemployment is almost as high as when Obama entered office. Economic conditions became so dire after Obama took office it prompted the rise of an entire new movement, the Tea Party.
Presidents rarely win reelection when the economy is in the tank.
So how did Romney lose a race that numerous reputable polls and pundits predicted would be an easy win, based on historical patterns?
Massive voter fraud.

There are massive reports of criminal activity
(not mischief, not shenanigans, as many term the fraud- but CRIMINAL ACTIVITY) going on all over the U.S during the presidential election.
Reports of machines changing votes from Romney to Obama, eyewitness reports of Republican poll watchers who observed busloads of non-English speaking Somalians in Ohio being instructed to vote Obama- the list is endless.

By the way - that quote is also wrong as the redistricting is not only affected by those acts, but it is not done directly by the legislature but by an independent commission - the argument that the legislature “gerrymandered” him in drawing the districts, again, has no basis in reality.

She’s been winning the elections for a long time, many yeaars. I looked but couldn’t find results of them but many were ran unopposed I think.

Apparently Walker was the belle of St. Lucie based upon articles I have read. She’s been placed on commissions by the Governors and maybe even National groups. Her husband Charles is one of the Florida Highwaymen which are centered around Ft. Pierce. So all in all she has huge name recoginition in the county and probably has become ‘one of us’ amongst the voters.

Fraud isn’t or wasn’t even a large enough factor to cause his defeat according to Allen West. It basically gets down to who the people want and are willing to cast their ballot for.

You're being ridiculous. You will probably see that Romney won West's district, so you can't blame anyone other than the candidate's weakness or his opponent's strength.

Just what did you do for West? Did you even donate directly? Did you hop a bus and go volunteer? Bad news, friend, the GOP is you and if you didn't make much of an effort, why would you expect your neighbors to?

Take a breather. This is a very winnable district in 2014. It will be highly targeted and the NRCC will put a lot of effort into getting it back; count on it. If West plays his cards right, he'll be back in congress within two years.

You may would like to go back in Rush Limbaugh’s archives because he told the audience that the GOP at the *top* secretly (so their hands were not on it) intentionally set up West- to have his seat redistricted. Why? to get him right out of his seat. They were embarrassed by West so no lie there either. GOP did not run positive ads to defend him. I didn’t see any. Towards the end of the campaign, the TV ads showed repeatedly that Allen was a extremist monster - The face of the worse of the republican party they pounded. Yes, there was fraud. Port St Lucie is a dem operative stronghold/why they reworked his area. You don’t know the area like I do. Surprisingly, Obama comes to that area where West loses right before the election.

Your assessment is spot on to a large degree. I don't know how Obama did in Palm Beach within the 18th district. However West lost the 18th district by a poor showing in Martin Cty. Obama lost Martin by some 18,000 votes and West only won by some 10,700 votes. Had West carried Martin in the same range as Romney did we'd not have even heard a thing about St. Lucie Cty.

So then it was actually Republican controlled Martin County and not Democratically controlled St Lucie County that cost Allen West his Congressional seat.

If West had done better in a GOP district then he'd not have had to worry about his loss in a democratic district. True there were some 3,000 votes less in the CD race than voted in the Presidential race. West lost the CD by some 1900 votes. West got some 7,300 less votes than did Romney in Martin County.

Sorta ties into the extreme view, doesn't it.. Lots of good people live there who tried to save his seat. The fraud in several counties made things touchy. The libs are not that bright in those higher postilions; they just are paid to be corrupt. Most of the people who are coming in are from the northeast who probably vote twice in each election. This was not a clean election/Florida and nationwide.
