Santa Monica Forced To CANCEL Christmas After Atheist Campaigner Launches Protest Against Town's Holiday Decorations 18 November 2012
A California town has been forced to axe its Christmas decorations after an atheist protester objected to a 14-piece religious display in the town centre and set up his own booths mocking Christianity and preventing church groups from celebrating the holidays.
Officials in Santa Monica, California have snuffed the city's holiday tradition this year rather than intervening in the religious fight - prompting churches which have set up a 14-scene Christian diorama every year for decades to sue over freedom of speech violations.
Their attorney will ask a federal judge on Monday to allow them to reproduce the depiction of Jesus' birth, while the city aims to have the case throwen out.
Banned: A Nativity scene is seen with a protective fence along Santa Monica's shore last year, a scene which according to the city will not re-appear this year
'It's a sad, sad commentary on the attitudes of the day that a nearly 60-year-old Christmas tradition is now having to hunt for a home, something like our saviuor had to hunt for a place to be born because the world was not interested,' said Hunter Jameson, head of the nonprofit Santa Monica Nativity Scene Committee that is suing.

***Were you there? Just curious how you know this?***
I live in the area. I knew the crank. Word leaked out from the hospital staff.
Oh yes, the music...Christmas carols are my favorite.
I really, really, really, really hate activist atheists.
She yelled at them and told them to go away. The boys politely thanked her and went on their way. The boys showed class and grace all the way. They turned out to be the adults in the situation.
A caveat to the story:
The boys saw the offended neighbor getting her groceries out of her car a few days after the second Nativity scene went up, and offered to assist her with the groceries. She yelled at them and told them to go away.
The brothers thanked her and went on their way. The boys turned out to be the adults in the situation even though they were in eighth grade.
It amazes me to no end to see just how narrow minded these "educated" people have become. I've really seen a transformation of the university system over the years become so twisted in promoting the concept of thought and debate. It's only of value to them now when it agrees with their philosophy. Case in point would be the latest fiasco at Fordham University. They rescinded an invitation to Ann Coulter to speak at this "Catholic" university, but still thought it appropriate to invite prof. Peter Singer, who advocates the killing of the unborn, but also sex with animals. Good grief!
Catherine of Aragon, (love the name btw )Have a very Happy Thanksgiving.
also, in regards to the original story, you would think in a town named after st. Monica they would be more than happy to put up a creche
Hard to believe a town like St. Monica wouldn't be more zealous about defending their good name. But then we have the City of Angels out there...
