It's a good thing Mel Brooks' inspiration for "Blazing Saddles" struck in the early 1970s and not 2012. Had Brooks come up with the western genre spoof today, it wouldn't pass muster at any major studio.
Brooks himself shared that sad truth during a visit to "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last night. "Blazing Saddles" starred Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, Harvey Korman and Madeline Kahn in a zany send up of classic western films. And while "Superbad," "Bridesmaids" and "Project X" push the boundaries of modern cinema, they couldn't compare to the outrageous gags Brooks sprinkled throughout his 1974 comedy classic. "It couldn't be made today," Brooks tells Kimmel flatly before launching into a classic story about an early preview of the film, and how a man high up at Warner Bros. told him to make some major cuts ... or else. "We had this preview, people went crazy. They laughed, they enjoyed it. Afterwards, he grabs me by the collar and shoves me into an office ... and he says,

We shoot Cowboy Action (steel plate match against the clock, usually 6 stages, dress up as Western characters). The stages have elaborate themes and scenarios, and to start the clock, the shooter has to say something.
One weekend, the theme for the match was "Western movies", and to start the clock you said your favorite line from a movie. We got to the "Blazing Saddles" stage, my husband went up to the line, got in the starting position, took his hat off, put it over his heart, and sang, "I get no kick from champagne . . . "
And three guys behind him harmonized "Woo . . . woo . . . wooo." (they weren't prompted, they just did it).
We were all laughing so darned hard we had to restart the clock.
All kidding aside I thought Clevelon Little was great as the sheriff and Mel Brooks a genius for making this classic film..!
My favort Gov. line:
We’ve got to do something to protect our phony baloney jobs!!
Actually, I think Hedley said it first.
“He’d have to have an enormous schvanstuuker!”
“Well, that goes without saying.”
Blazing Saddles is one of my all time favorites. I also love Rocky Horror Picture but can only watch it in a theater. It requires the interaction of an audience to reveal it’s true genius.
“Dock that chink a days pay”
IIRC, Brooks’ indian headdress was lettered “Kosher for Passover” in Hebrew, or some deliberate misspelling thereof. Mel is truly an equal-opportunity offender. :-)
“I didn’t get a Hurrumph outa dat guy...”
“Hurrumph!”
“You watch your ass.”
Priceless
He said, “The sheriff is near...”
That’s racist!
Actually my buddies were Eyetalian.
Our nickname for their Dad was the Wopper.
Absolutely agree with those, but don’t forget “ High Anxiety”
making fun of Nurse Ratchet from Cuckoo’s Nest.
Monty Python would also be out. Every other skit would be considered “racist”.

Make this movie today? Fat chance.
Borat showed many similar things and got made. Blazing Saddles could still get made. I think Brooks is wrong.
I tried watching this once. Too much scatology for me.
LOL!!!
