Several former workers at a Hostess Brands plant in Rocky Mount said Friday they were relieved after the company filed for bankruptcy

If ‘they’ are just referring to the fact that the job can’t be held over their head anymore, decent statement.
If that is NOT what they meant, then it appears the owner was running a Slave Shop, where the employees(???) were unable to leave and seek other means of self support.
The answer more than likely in the middle, till the Employer ‘kicks ‘em out’, the bennies will NOT kick in, now that they are ‘free’ from the shackles of work(?) they will be able to get all the free goodies.
I don’t know how this unemployment works any more, but I remember from my hiring days that at least the drawer had to openly ‘appear’ to be seeking work.
Of course, my stock answer to anyone showing up looking for a laborers job at 11AM (early for most) was “you be here at 6 AM and catch ANY of the dump trucks going to the job. Check in with me first”.
My ‘open rule’ was “One that shows up at 6AM, lunch in hand, work clothes on, had a job, very few questions asked”.
Since I didn’t ‘advertise’ it that way, I never had a lot of people I ‘must’ hire.
My SIL been out of work (combination of things) and I found something for him - mostly part time, but steady, his own boss and he could get about 400 per week dropping off newspapers in their truck. (Hrs 02-06 +-)
After not a whole lot of thought I was told no sense going off unemployment for that...Of course FOR someone really interested in working that is just something to get by on, allowing you to look for a REAL job during the day.
Of course 1939 has something to do with that train of thought and we all know us ‘old fartz’ are just plain stoooopid.
They thin another company will buy it up and restore their pay and benefits. Seriously.

I come from a long line of Old Farts, and I miss them every day as I pack my lunch and head out to work. :)
I am so very GRATEFUL to have had a Dad and, not one but TWO, Grandpas just like you!
*HUGE HUG* Thank you! God Bless You! :)
