The California High-Speed Rail Authority said Thursday that it was adding 12 months to the construction schedule for 130 miles of track in the Central Valley, easing what some outside experts have contended was an overly aggressive and risky timeline.

Construction industry experts have said that the job of building the $6 billion of track through the Central Valley would require spending $3.5 million per day, one of the fastest rates of transportation project spending in history.

Nothing. It is a jobs program designed to suck billions from the US treasury to pay its union obligations.

We will never see mile one built.

Nice! But to add a touch of realism can you slow the ants down as they hit the long section of track that won’t support high speed travel?

I was under the impression CA had shelved this dumb idea. Apparently the money offered was just too much of a magnet. Of course it won’t be anywhere near what will be needed to finish the “project”, but by that time who will care. We can only hope the “big one” happens to help in the decision process.

Translation: The money that was to be set aside for this exercise in futility, raised by borrowing and/or promises, is now to be diverted to fund other more urgent “needs” as determined by the bunch of squirrels in Sacramento, who depend on the nuts found on the California coast for their sustenance and inspiration.

They won’t complete it until they can find a Veteran’s parade to run over.

Now the Dems have supermajorities of the legislature they can spend at abandon. California will turn Sweden.

"Potemkin Village", an impressive but ultimately illusionary edifice erected to impress a ruler / ruling class. All aboard the Potemkin Railroad, traveling at high cost from somewhere to elsewhere.

Here in Florida, then Gov Charlie Christ welcomed President Obama with a warm embrace when he came to 'give' us Floridians a bullet (train) from Orlando to Tampa. Now Charlie is not only ex-governor, he is ex-GOP and chasing ambulances for a local law firm, Morgan&Morgan, while contemplating another run as a Democrat. New Governor Rick Scott bulleted the "Bullet Train" as soon as he got into office for the same reason the NJ Gov. Christie killed that added Hudson River ARC Tunnel, the continuing costs would far out-weigh the 'free' government money.

An interesting thought for now, imagine if that Hudson ARC was still in progress at two years when Sandy shows up? What ifs are always difficult, but NJ is probably quite happy not to be facing that bill on top of all of the other expenses going on right now! Another demonstration of potential consequences to 'free' government hand-outs!
