Fair enough - but that's the one thing that throws me about the joke - if Mr. Carlson DID think, as God is his witness, that turkeys could fly - what the hell was the point of the promotion? Push a bunch of turkeys out of a chopoer so they can all fly off? What's in it for the people in the parking lot watching?

Bailey over Jennifer, btw

And on Firefly we eventually learn that River has been brainwashed quite thoroughly and that brainwashing was focused on making her a super soldier, part of a program to deal with the Reaver threat; and also she tends to cheat (smart super soldiers don’t participate in standup fights unless they have too). And Black Widow has a long standing history of having gone through super soldier training, and again she cheats (for the same reason).

A woman can kick down a man that outweighs her easy, if the kick is to the groin or neck you’re going down.

It’s not to make men look unnecessary. Butt kicking women have been a part of sci-fi culture for DECADES. The only thing that’s changed recently is that SF culture has taken over a large chunk of pop culture, so you get to find out about it. And the reasoning is quite simple: butt kicking women are physically fit, and they “have to” wear tight and often small clothing, that gets torn, and they get to show off their flexibility. All of these things appeal to the male SF demographic, and as they’ve learned the non-SF male demographic.

Really you need to stop looking at things through the prism of the fragile male ego and start looking at things through the libido. Look at the Supergirl costume, even the original 1959 features a tiny puffy skirt, THAT’S why women warriors are popular. There’s a great gag poster out there on what if male super heroes were posed the same way female super heroes are posed, it’s hilarious, but also shows exactly why the strong female characters exist.

I don’t know how you could get the impression from SCC that the men are unnecessary, the whole thing was to get one boy to manhood. Again, stop looking with the fragile male ego. And try to make yours less fragile. If SCC was about men being unnecessary to you then your brain input a lot of stuff that simply was not there, not even a little.

80s wasn’t perfect, but look at todays prime time lineup and then go find a copy of the 80s schedules. Its night and day...

Cosby Show, Family Ties (some liberal preaching from the hippie parents, but generally reinforced decent moral behavior) , Facts of Life (not perfect but generally reinforced moral behavior) etc etc.. it wasn’t like there were no adult fair, there were, but they were generally post 10pm.

I can’t think of a single network prime time show today that I would classify as wholesome in any way shape or form.

Don’t worry about my ego. I’m sure you have better things to do than try to psychoanalyze people you don’t know from short posts on a Web site.

I’m not worried about your ego, I could give a crap how you feel about yourself. I’m simply pointing out WHERE your interpretation of these shows is coming from. The only way to think a character like Sarah Connor makes men unnecessary is to ALREADY think men (specifically you) might be unnecessary. And the ease with which you rattle off a bunch of character that make you feel unnecessary shows you view a lot of things that way. Which is fine, feel unnecessary all you want, but understand that’s coming from YOU not the show. None of the characters you listed make men unnecessary on any level in any way.

History Channel has been a joke for a long long time now...

“I liked it better when they were “The Hitler Channel.””

My brother called it “Master Race Theater”.

False dichotomy. The correct answer is Bailey and Jennifer. (Ditto for Ginger and Mary Ann.)

But yes, if forced to pick just one, definitely Bailey (and Mary Ann).

If it makes you feel better to hold to your interpretation, that’s fine.

You should be smart enough to know that you can’t possibly know where my interpretation of the show is coming from. The only person in this conversation you know that well is you.

And, no, I’m not going to try to guess why it’s so important to you to claim you know what I’m thinking.

"ya get tired of clipping the remote.. in search of a program where someone is not gay.. or the lead male actors are a bunch of dweebs."

"The emasculation and disintegration of a nation’s society is the #1 priority for networks. hell, even cooking and home remodeling shows are infested with an agenda.. sad."

When one knows the truth about demographics of those sponsoring the propaganda, one becomes aware of discomforting truths about politics and the state of our economy. I stopped a satellite TV subscription about nine years ago, haven't watched television since and began to learn then.

I’m smart enough to be able to see how self delusion works. And it’s not like you’re the first person I’ve encountered with this same self delusion. Heck just look at how worked up you are on this. You’ve completely ignored everything I pointed about about how butt kicking women are attractive, completely ignored everything we know about the saleability of sex, and you’ve become completely obsessed with defending your ego.

I don’t claim to know what you’re thinking. I’m pointing out that your statements TOLD me, and everybody else, what you’re thinking. Words have meaning as they say. And when a person has forgotten that sex sells and claims that women warrior characters have no other reason to exist than to say men are unnecessary the meaning of your words are quite clear and less than flattering.

Meanwhile all the other men on this thread can just look at the results of this google search:
https://www.google.com/search?q=avengers+black+widow&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=hVmlUKHqGuThiwLGhYGADg&biw=1133&bih=664&sei=iVmlUK6aM-GuiQK8woH4BA
To see EXACTLY why warrior women characters exist, and have existed since the 50s.

I watch two things on TV, news and sports ... the rest is all garbage. Come to think of it the news and sports is pretty much garbage too.

Good point.

I never watched a single episode of WKRP. I’d heard of this episode many times - this was the first time I’d watched any of it.

My grandfather thought it was the funniest show on TV. I never felt the motivation to check him out.

Oh, yes. We have a gang/rafter/flock of about 20 turkeys who snack in our back yard every morning and evening. (Right now they’re eating the deer corn we put out.) When something spooks them, they definitely fly!

They are cutting out some of my favorite parts of Andy Griffith to make room for commercials.

I hear you. The additional commercials have pretty much driven me away from network and cable TV. I've got most of my favorite shows on DVD now, commercial-free.

Not for the Roku itself (or AppleTV, or similar products) -- it's a one-time hardware purchase. But some of the content (e.g., Netflix, Hulu) have separate subscription fees.

I noticed that, but at the same time, it was normal and acceptable to smoke cigarettes in the 1950s. Nowadays, in contrast, it’s okay to play this glorified Russian Roulette of sexual promiscuity, which can potentially hurt you worse than smoking can, and in some of the wrong ways. Hear there’s also some antibiotic-resistant STDs going around.
