BANGKOK Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta has ordered the Pentagon to find out why so many generals and admirals have become embroiled in legal and ethical problems, a trend exacerbated by recent investigations of two of the militarys best-known commanders.
The Pentagon disclosed Panettas directive on Thursday after he arrived in Thailand as part of a visit to Asia. But aides insisted that he had been considering the review for some time and that it was not prompted by revelations that the FBI has been investigating former CIA director David H. Petraeus, a retired Army general, and Marine Gen. John R. Allen, the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan.
The deputy commander of the storied 82nd Airborne Division was relieved in May in Afghanistan and is now facing criminal charges that he sexually assaulted or engaged in adultery with five women. Last month, the commander of an aircraft carrier strike group in the Persian Gulf was relieved for inappropriate leadership judgment and is under investigation by the Navys inspector general.
On Tuesday, Panetta demoted the former four-star commander of the militarys Africa Command and ordered him to repay $82,000 for taking lavish or unauthorized trips with his wife.

Just like Rome: the Legions crumbled from within, the Senate bickered and quarreled, the Emperor played music while Rome burned, and the Empire was falling apart.
This is how it is right now...
High ranking officers at Tampa were encouraged to mix with the civilian population.
I guess the military leaders are merely following the example of the political leaders. Go along, get along.
Because no officer is promoted above Col. unless you are part of the club or a special interest. They drive the good ones out.
Purge! Guess who will replaced them...
I remember a class in basic training, about avoiding Honey Traps and that adultery was a violation of the UCMJ.
That was in 1958.
Did they drop that instruction?
Why not begin with the Commander in Chief (traitor in chief)?
I think the answer is you received this training in basic. If there exist a “culture of corruption” the military needs to look at the structure at which it recruits, trains and develops its future senior command. I believe this would begin on how it is recruiting Academy and ROTC Cadets. Next would be the “politicos” that seemed to get promoted over the hard nosed generals and admirals. Eventually these men and women believe they are above the rules.
duh panetta, it starts at the top, they are just following the leader, the one with unknown records and a fake birth certificate who doesnt give a rats behind about the constitution or laws..
I think it was replaced with diversity and tolerance training to now know how to Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and Don’t drop the soap.
These military leaders didn’t care when they sent Lt. Col. Lakin to Leavenworth.
He was the canary in the coal mine. Now it’s their turn. How do you like your Obambi now?
Traitors all of them.
David, it that you???
I thought old (and I mean OLD) Panetta was just going to “read about it in the papers” like you and me?
I guess he awoke from his 4th nap of the day. Talk about OLD cronies!!
Here comes the PURGE....here comes the PURGE!
