Huh? Gingrich succeeded enormously. Clinton, of course, after opposing him to the death, took the credit for what Gingrich did. But the GOP establishment was embarrassed by Gingrich, and when the Dems and the press started trumping up wierd charges because they were infuriated with his success, the usual go along to get along GOP establishment came out and got rid of Newt.

Gingrich was the GOP establishment. After a year, he told the rest of the house leadership they wouldn't be pursuing a conservative agenda anymore and they better fall in line.

Gingrich spent the 2000s romancing Nancy Pelosi and trying to get people like Dede Scozzafava elected over conservatives. This guy actually believes we should destroy the economy for Global Warming.
