Ohio food stamps for low income families will be reduced in January 2013(told after election)

The Toledo Blade reported on Monday that the state Department of Jobs and Family Services will begin reducing food stamps for Ohio residents beginning in 2013. Reduction estimates should total $50 per family which is about $520 million worth of yearly groceries from a total of 869,000 households. ..... This amount was determined by the federal department and Ohio can do nothing to change the outcome. ... “This is a federal issue,” said Joel Potts, executive director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Directors’ Association. “It is what it is. They have a formula. ... We just think it is going to be really hard on families and individuals. They will see significantly less money starting in January.”

The unfortunate outcome in Ohio families having their stamps cut is that they will have even less money to spend on food. There are already a number of families that rely on visiting food banks because their food stamps often run out by month's end.

Parents with children who suffer from food allergies have to be critical of certain food items. This means that their grocery bills are often higher than the average family. Because the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services will lower food stamps in January it may be even more difficult for them to buy the right type of groceries.

I’m from OH and I sure didn’t pick zero. I loathe him and his deceit. Why is it just OH that is getting cut? Maybe to make it look like its Governor Kasich’s fault to unseat him in 2014? Sounds like something this a**hat would do.

The Republicans in this state better get this message out that this is coming from the Feds, or else Kasich will get the blame. People in this state are stupid that way.

Food stamp programs differ from state to state just like medicaid programs do. States have an option to spend extra state dollars for “ala carte’ services in addition to the “block grant funds” provided for basic food stamp services. Watch for articles and moves by advocacy group to pressure the Rep Govenor Kasich and the legislature to “restore” the lost funding.

Yes, I understand about the block grants. I’m just saying that Kasich will get the blame for this. The left has never recovered for their beloved Stickland getting beaten by Kasich in 2010.

Wow, that’s so sad. I guess Ohio food stamp “clients” can learn to cook cheap, like I do. And it will help them with their obesity problem, too.

I know there are plenty of lazy Obamaphone folks out there that deserve what they voted for... but their children do not. Stuff like this tears me up because on the one hand, they voted for someone who will withhold vital information affecting what is on their tables.. on the other hand, the suffering is real. How can we get these people to see the artificial compassion feigned by the left? I don’t think children should suffer so we can say.. told ya so.
I guess it is time to step up efforts in churches to serve these people... Curse the Dems who hold them in poverty in exchange for power.

Sorry mom, that is where you are wrong. We have had generations of welfare families where the children are taught how to be another welfare recipient. Until the children break the cycle, it will continue. I seriously doubt any child will die of starvation - there is still the school lunch program, and other means to get food. However, making life miserable for welfare children just might make them learn to aspire to something other than sitting on welfare when they grow up.

this "would have been" Romney's fault - so, whose fault is it now?

Two days before the election I had a premonition that Obama would win and he would not finish his term. That was all. When welfare is cut, and it will be, they cannot blame Romney, Obama and the vote-buying system of the Democrats will finally be analyzed by the ignorant voter.

“Apparently the more miserable it gets, the more voters seem driven to socialism.”

BINGO....
Which is EXACTLY THE POINT....

In this society they'd most likely just add gains in flash mobs.

This, more than likely, will spread to other battle ground states but I see it as payback from obama’s washington.

If you think out of the box, it could a telling sign that the regime KNOWS they won those states only by fraud and now they will punish these states.

Time will tell.

To paraphrase Glenn Reynolds...

They told me if I voted for Mitt Romney that people would have their food stamps cut. And they were right!

While the scale and particulars may be different, you can really see how Nazism rose in Europe in the 1920s and 1930s. People will sell their souls for material goods, no doubt...
