Gun sales are up in the wake of Barack Obama's re-election on Tuesday, driven by fears of tighter regulations under a Democratic president, especially for firearms that might be classified as assault weapons.
"Sales are up," said John Kielbasa, owner of Fernwood Firearms in Hankins, N.Y. "I had a guy waiting here first thing in the morning [after the election.] He came in, bought two AK-47s."
Kielbasa said that he sells semiautomatic versions of the fully automatic Kalashnikov rifles, as is permitted by law. He said the demand for semiautomatic rifles is being stoked by memories of the assault weapon ban pioneered by another Democrat, former President Bill Clinton.
That ban, which expired in 2004, didn't eliminate the weapons entirely, but restricted their features, limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds and regulating pistol grips, bayonet attachments and flash suppressors.
Lawrence Keane, vice president of gun industry group National Shooting Sports Foundation, says that modern sporting rifles -- a term that he prefers to assault weapons -- are "the most popular type of rifles being bought today by Americans." He says they're used by hunters, target shooters, veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, and citizens who want to protect their property from looters in the wake of recent storms.
Fears that a ban on the weapons might come back under Democratic leadership drove gun enthusiasts to buy firearms when Obama was first elected in 2008. The most reliable way to track the number of gun sales is via background checks, and they spiked after the last election.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted 97,848 firearms background checks on Nov. 28, 2008, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation. That's the third-highest number of background checks ever recorded in a single day. The FBI conducted 12.7 million background checks during all of...

These elections are NOT certified yet. The only way to get this investigated, much less recounted or overturned, is through the Secretary of State of each of the five key states: Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. EVEN IF YOU ARE IN ANOTHER STATE you can help. But it wont do any good to dilute our effort to challenge California or Michigan or other states. Until a major group gets involved to do more, here is the plan: Contact the Secretary of State of the state in question. See contact information below...

Start with the election. If we let the Rats get away with this massive voter fraud, we're no better than a bananna republic.

Basically it indicates that the purchaser has indicated interest and sought approval...it’s no guarantee that the purchaser has actually gone through with the transaction.
As others gave said it just means you expressed an interest in a firearm and the dealer ran a background check to make sure no disqualifiers turned up. It does not mean you completed the transaction. On the other hand if the dealer actually sells you a firearm he has a hard copy DROS/4473 (Dealers Record of Sale) on file. All that means it is the last recorded sale of the firearm. What you do with it after that is your business depending on the state you live in . California for example want all transactions to go through a dealer. I wouldn't get to worried yet. If reports start turning up that the BATFE is starting to review all U.S.dealers books then I would be concerned but that would be such a monumental task as to be almost impracticable.
The choke point would ammunition rather than firearms. Without ammo a firearm will an expensive paperweight.
I am thinking of adding and this was my main concern.
I’m in NY, so I’m not sure how the laws are written here.
Thanks for the comment & links!
You’re welcome.
I refuse to roll over and accept blatant voter fraud.
I may not be able to do much, but at least I’m trying.
Nevermind all the comments at the sites linked, a vast number of which express the same kind of thinking you and I have, that liberalism has cheated to seize power over America.
Longbow and all the rest of the "grown-ups" who poo-poo folks who are rightly and courageously screaming bloody murder about vote fraud as "conspiracy kooks" -- all you "grown up" Republicans, who'll vote for anything with an R on its jersey, you're such good dogs! Good beta dogs, rolling over to the alpha dog, even though you're bigger.
Ridicule is pretty powerful. A lot of "grown-ups" just can't stand the thought of being ridiculed as "conspiracy kooks" by The World, so ... they roll over as election after election is dominated by pretend voters, Americans who don't exist, in order to cede power to government tyranny.
"Grown-up" Americans who hold the majority of their fellow countrymen in contempt for being "children" are losers and asses, every single one of them. They are insulting MY country. They all need a good swift kick in the ass.
Sure enough, went nuts and bought 3 new guns today, including a sweet little Colt 6920. Thought I had plenty. But when the grabbers start making their treasonous noises, the urge to buy more becomes irresistible. Plus, you can never have too many.
Sigh... Now I’ll have to drop thousands more on ammo. By the time you’re well stocked, the darn stuff costs more than the guns themselves.
Thanks for the suggestion. Hi ho!

Sounds like Infowars is the site for you. You'll be surrounded by lots of paultard type conspiracy theorists. There you can rail about the Bilderberg Group, "globalists", gold standards, FEMA camps, etc. Meanwhile, the serious people can get on with trying to right the ship.
“If reports start turning up that the BATFE is starting to review all U.S.dealers books then I would be concerned but that would be such a monumental task as to be almost impracticable.”
Also consider that information loses value with age...you may have a 4473 for person X from 1992, but if he moved in 1998...
“...What would be a good starter handgun?...”
Glock 19, hands down.
Simple to operate, simple to maintain, and always works.
It is the AK47 of the handgun world. Always goes bang. Takes high cap mags that can also be used in the full-size Glock G17.
The new Generation 4 Glocks are amazing.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Happy to oblige.
Good advise on the Glock 19.
I had a Gen 3 until it was stolen, so I replaced with with a Gen 4 Glock 23 in .40SW. I figured it can convert it down to 9mm like I did with my Glock 22, but conversion barrels are scarce right now.
Just to clarify;
Glock 19 mags will not fit in the Glock 17.
The longer 17rnd Glock 17 mags WILL fit in the Glock 19.
RE 19 Mags in a 17:
I have 15 rounders for my 19, haven’t tried them in a 17, but I do have two 17 rounders that do work. I assumed the 15ers would fit the larger 17. My bad.
IMHO, it’s the best all around carry gun I’ve had. Started out with a 1911A1 (huge), dropped to a Beretta m85 (puny), then settled on the G19 (perfect).
By the way - I’ve got a G21 too, .45acp. Also a nice piece.
No problem.
The 15rnd G19 mags are just a little too short for the 17.
I love carrying my G23 and still grieve for the loss of my G19. I like that the Gen4 is a little smaller in the hand without any grip additions, but they could have made it smaller still. Haven’t swapped out the sights, yet. My G19 had Trijicons, but now I’m thinking about they hybrid tritium/fiber sights. I forgot how punchy the .40SW is, as I’d been shooting 9mm exclusively for the past 3 years.
Shame about your G19... Did you get the cops involved?
I’m actually thinking of picking up a second G19, since the wife likes shooting mine so much. Also, the Springfield XD9 is pretty nice too. Backstrap is a little easier in the hand. Shoots well, and does the job.
I’ve shot my friend’s Browning Hi-Power in .40 caliber; fun round. I don’t own any 40s though - all 9mm and .45, with a couple .380s
