I agree. If there comes a time for serious secession discussions, it wouldn’t be on internet sites and online petitions. While a lot of the reasons to secede have been met, it is not time to fold the tent and run. Our country survived 16 years of FDR, we can survive eight of Obama. Second terms are usually scant on substantial polices anyway, and usually are mostly side issues. We hold the House, so we control our fate on legislation. Our major issues have to come from the seemingly unlimited overstepping of executive powers by the administration, and unwillingness of anyone to hold him accountable. I hope with this election in the rear view mirror, our representatives will stop turning a blind eye. Their strategy was clearly to avoid any side issue in the year going into the election to keep a laser focus on the economic failures. This did not work, so we better see a chance of direction in these committees.
You are right, in that online petitions are a joke. If there was a real secessionist movement, it would consist of real signatures, rallies, etc. in the states in question. I have yet to hear of such a thing. I also think that secession is unrealistic, barring some kind of economic collapse.
But having said that, I don’t agree that this is similar to FDR. This country has passed a tipping point. We are now sliding down towards European socialism, and the combination of immigration (taking in large numbers of unskilled, 3rd world people) and “education” (little more than kids being trained for 16 years in terms of who to hate) makes any kind of political change very unlikely.
Anecdotally, I have been shocked at how many times I have heard people who I didn’t even know were political, refer to secession, collapse, and how America is now finished. I am talking about secretaries, professionals, clerks, and small business owners. The feeling that this country has changed is palpable. I don’t think it will lead anywhere, but I am less sure of that than I once was.
Our control of the House, which you cite, is irrelevant. America’s internal enemies now know that they can do whatever they want, without repercussions. Any notion that the GOP will stop them is as unrealistic as any online petition.
By “We” I expect you mean the cowardly Republicans? Boner who has already declared Obamacare to be the law of the land? Is that the “We” that will control our fate? Good luck with that!
