Ky., Ind. among states with petitions to secede
WLKY ^ | 11.12. 2012 | Eric King

Posted on 11/12/2012 12:48:36 PM PST by Morgana

According to the White House, more than 7,000 people have signed petitions for Indiana and Kentucky to secede from the union. Related.

In total, there are 20 states with similar petitions, all of them filed within the last two days.

The petitions all came from individuals and not state governments.

Withdrawing from the union is not legal.

They all read the same way, "We petition the Obama administration to peacefully grant (the state) to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government."

The petitions also cite Declaration of Independence.

The petitions require 25,000 signatures each, by Dec. 10. If they reach the threshold of 25,000, they’ll receive a response from the president.

Indiana? What are they seceding from? They just elected a liberal DEM to be their US Senator. They are reasonably content with the direction of the nation.

No, but it shows how people are feeling across the country and pisses off Obama.

I’ll take it seriously when I see the legislature pass a resolution.

Withdrawing from the union is not legal.

Show me in the US Constitution Article/Section that says secession is illegal.

By my count, so far Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky and Indiana have petitioned to secede. Any others?

South Carolina was first last time, what gives?

Yes, in the form of revenge. Maybe the petitioners’ homes will be raided or their tax returns audited.

We also went for Romney, a Repub governer and complete Repub control of the legislature. Unfortunately our idiot tea party buffoon of a senate candidate couldn't get his foot out of his mouth.

Exactly right, of course. Take Alabama, for example (and somebody has a petition for us to secede, too): The Huntsville/Madison area has an economy that is substantially dependent on Government military contracts. You think that would be maintained if Alabama were suddenly not a part of the United States? Never mind all of the other troubles that would be created by a secession.

Yeah, we hate the election results; we have a polarized country. But this isn't gonna solve the problem.

We also elected another conservative Governor, Mike Pence, to replace Governor Daniels.

Mourdock would have won easily but he couldn’t keep his mouth shut, especially after Akins got roasted for the same thing. Republicans are the stupid party after all.

The petitions all came from individuals and not state governments.

Then they are worthless. This shouldn't be in Front Page News. This is not worthy of the last page. It is not news. It is just a bunch of people who aren't happy.

Until their Duly Elected State Governments petition the United States for Independence or declare their independence, it is just a waste of electrons on a website.

CAUTION! These things are likely traps to entice you to click the link and go to the White House website where your IP address and browser configuration will be recorded for future reference.

This is their way of blowing off steam. We fired a liberal right on schedule the day after the elections, and this was our way of blowing off steam. I would prefer if they wrote a letter that said F888 YOU OBAMA though...

You are really missing the point. To secede renders the ties to DC irrelevant. Those tied to DC must learn to survive. Anyone working defense would now be working for the seceding states defense anyway.

The liberals did the same thing in 04.

Personally I’d like to see the states return to choosing senators the way it was done before the 17th unconstitutional amendment. There are at least 23 states with all 3 branches of state government in GOP hands. For those keeping score, that’s 46 GOP senators right there.

You got it bass ackward. The Duly Elected State Governments put secession to the people of that state. If passed, then out of courtesy, FedGov™ is informed. Nobody in this case asks FedGov™ for permission.
