I guess anything is possible. We question and interrogate people from and in foreign countries all the time. Nothing new or disturbing about that.
It was suggested that this was a CIA detention center. Got a lot of bad press when it was discovered the CIA was doing it under Bush.

1. There should have been a rescue, and non was sent. Hussein went to bed ready to risk the deaths of not only 4 but 40 that night.
2. There are 15,000 MANPADS floating around Libya, now probably in the hands of Al Qaeda. For a decade or more anyone getting on a commercial plane is going to sweat a bit more. Heavy birds can take a single hit to an engine on takeoff or landing, but probably not two. We might have to install dazzlers near major at-risk airports, and we might even have to equip airliners with them (very expensive). In view of this, it’s silly to continue with the TSA shoe gang-bang, but I seriously dought they’ll stop any of that.
3. Libya/Turkey/Syria involved some major arms smuggling to proto-Al Qaeda, and this was the desire of a President of the US.
Seems to beg more questions for sure. I haven’t watched the lecture video yet but have been reading about it tonight. I am starting to think someone was blackmailing and threatening both of them at this point.

I agree with all of your points but on that one, although it is creating confusion now, it is bringing light to the Benghazi scandals. The sex angle will die down because Petraeus isn't the top dawg and he quit so there can be no controversy about the position he holds. Then we'll get back to testimony about this...
I agree about the ambitious brownnoser bit, but not at all that he would go public with this voluntarily in this way.
So just suppose for a minute that you were petraeus and your life was flashing before your eyes. Would you rather take a hit for infidelity from which ALL the information you are now seeing has come from ‘friends”? Or would you wait for the hangman’s noose or the axe to fall?
Suppose the reason you got your job was because you had done this exact kind of op under a previous administration. You knew all the actors and all the players. You are an arabist and anti-Israel who fits right in with this admin...(and gee, so is MS Broadwell.) Imagine that. And along comes Walid Shoebat to tell the world that not only isn’t their guy a billionaire Jew, (or a disgruntled Egyptian Copt,) he is actually an FBI asset, a muslim connected to the muslim brotherhood and this so-called movie was done in JULY. The FBI is involved from the start.
The ball of yarn starts unraveling. The stories don’t ring true. Four Americans are dead. Thirty more WOULD have died. Not a good thing.
Now take it from there.
The timeline on all of this is being deliberately muddled to try to protect the WH. When the first story broke Friday, the reports said the affair was first discovered when Patraeus was stationed in Afghanistan. That means Spring 2011, 18 months ago like you say. Press stories in the NYT & WaPo yesterday tried to indicate all this happened in the last 2 weeks. Today, these same outlets are saying it was this spring or summer. The timeline keeps shifting because no one is buying the cover up.
Patraeus was appointed by 0zer0 to the CIA post in April 2011, and was confirmed Sep 2011. The early reports also said the affair continued until Patraeus took over the CIA. If these timelines are correct, that means the FBI had to have been investigating the affair real time, and probably while Patraeus was being vetted for the CIA, and certainly before he was confirmed, or soon thereafter.
So the story that the WH is saying about not knowing about this until Wednesday after the election is a complete lie. If the FBI knew about this 18 months ago, than FBI Director Mueller had to know, and probably AG Holder. You could also assume Nat. Sec. Director Donilon knew, and probably Leon Panetta, who was the former CIA chief. All these people would have to have told 0zer0 long before the election.
I am convinced that 0zer0 knew about this affair in real time and deliberately appointed a compromised Petraeus to allow him to be blackmailed in the future should they need to protect the WH. If the affair wasn’t a big deal 18 months ago, when Petraeus was appointed and confirmed, then why is the affair a big deal now when it actually ended many months ago? The answer has to be Benghazi is the deal that forced the WH to play this trump card. The timeline explains everything.
Whether Petraeus has any other damaging info on the WH, and whether he will divulge it is unknown. But this episode shows all you need to know about how the WH is run.
Question is, what happens next?

What you describe is quite possible IMO and I’ve no question but that he especially doesn’t want to perjure himself to Congress as part of the coverup.
I just don’t think he’d make the infidelity stuff public if he didn’t have to because by refusing to go along with the administration and take the fall for it, they were going to expose this stuff anyway.

petraeus is a strategist. THIS is an exit strategy. Tell my wife “They are out to get me.”
Have her consent to do whatever he needs to do to extract himself. They are ALL friends. Everyone involved in this knows everyone else.
These emails are done from a gmail account for G-d’s sake. So one family ‘friend’ complains to the FBI about ‘harrassing’ emails. Whoa. Then he outs his so-called mistress who is ALSO a family friend. Whoa. And then it turns out that thousands? of emails are sent from this account? Thousands? Really?
But it doesn’t end there. No. Suddenly we are told that well, maybe these so-called harrassing emails weren’t sent by that nasty mistress homewrecker after all. OOOOOO. Poor petraeus looks like he is being set up. He needs ‘time’ to fix his broken life. Awww. Pity the fool.
G-d love a duck, y’all. This is a script.
If Petraeus just wanted to resign, he could resign.
This crap is out only because he was being blackmailed, so when it came to lying under oath this time to Congress he got it out instead.
