Since obiecare describes implementation for full time employees - over 30 hours per week, expect employers to restrict hours per employee to less than 30 hours. That’s a 25% pay cut for each employee affected. Here’s hoping those employees who supported theOne saw that coming.
A new Frisch’s restaurant opened nearby, hiring signs touting the benefits.... Reality is the kids they are hiring are getting about 10 hours a week, couple of 4 to 5 hour shifts. They keep hiring more while not increasing anyone’s hours. The administration has made noises it will go after companies that cut back on employee’s hours to avoid Obamacare - so wise companies are simply hiring more part-time workers and ensuring no one will be even close to the 30 hour trigger. My 19 year old son got a job there for a while, fortunately he found another job close by with closer to 40 hours/week, at least through the beginning of the year. He’s learning that in today’s economy a kid has to juggle multiple jobs if they want to survive, best to get an education and ultimately open your own business (without other employees until the Government changes).
This was the odd piece to make ObamaCare work. You had to put in specified hours. If they had put 36 hours, then employers would have cut everyone to 35 hour weeks. If they had said 20 hours, then employers would have cut everyone to 19 hour weeks.
By 2014, we will have to devise an entirely new way to view employment and unemployment. If you have a job and it works only thirty hours a week....then you are under-employed.
This all brings me to the concept of too many cooks in the kitchen and brewing up a perfect batch of soup that can’t be perfect in nature.
